Principal LIMS Developer – Java & SAPIO/LabVantage

🚨 SAPIO LIMS EXPERIENCE IS MANDATORY

We are seeking a highly experienced Principal/Lead LIMS Developer to lead a major laboratory modernization initiative. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with SAPIO LIMS and/or LabVantage, combined with extensive Java/Spring Boot development and experience leading LIMS implementations or modernization programs.

This is a hands-on technical leadership position requiring strong architecture, development, laboratory-domain knowledge, stakeholder management, and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the architecture, design, development, and implementation of SAPIO LIMS and/or LabVantage solutions.

• Lead LIMS modernization, implementation, upgrade, and integration initiatives.

• Translate laboratory and business requirements into scalable workflows, integrations, and technical solutions.

• Design and optimize laboratory workflows covering sample management, testing, results review, approvals, and exception handling.

• Develop and oversee Java/Spring Boot applications, REST APIs, microservices, custom configurations, business rules, and platform extensions.

• Design integrations between LIMS and laboratory instruments, ELN, SDMS, CDS, healthcare systems, and enterprise platforms.

• Establish technical standards, coding practices, architecture principles, and development best practices.

• Conduct architecture reviews, code reviews, performance tuning, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis.

• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to development teams.

• Collaborate closely with laboratory scientists, healthcare teams, business stakeholders, architects, QA, and other technical teams.

• Ensure solutions meet applicable GxP, 21 CFR Part 11, ALCOA+, data integrity, security, and regulatory requirements.

• Support Computer System Validation (CSV) activities, including URS, FRS, traceability, IQ/OQ/PQ, validation documentation, and audit readiness.

• Participate in technical planning, solution design, modernization strategy, and enterprise architecture discussions.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or related field.

• 8+ years of software engineering or enterprise application development experience.

• Strong hands-on SAPIO LIMS experience is mandatory.

• Experience with LabVantage is highly desirable.

• Strong hands-on Java development experience.

• Strong experience with Spring / Spring Boot.

• Proven experience leading LIMS implementations, upgrades, integrations, or modernization programs.

• Healthcare, clinical laboratory, diagnostics, pharmaceutical, or biotechnology experience is required.

• Strong experience with REST APIs, microservices, system integrations, and backend architecture.

• Experience with Python and frameworks such as Flask, Django, or FastAPI.

• Experience with AWS and/or Azure.

• Strong SQL/NoSQL database knowledge, data modeling, and enterprise integration patterns.

• Experience with application troubleshooting, performance optimization, and root-cause analysis.

• Knowledge of GxP, 21 CFR Part 11, ALCOA+, CSV, and regulated SDLC practices.

• Excellent technical leadership, communication, and stakeholder-management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Extensive SAPIO LIMS experience across enterprise implementations or modernization programs.

• LabVantage experience.

• Experience integrating LIMS with ELN, SDMS, CDS, laboratory instruments, and healthcare systems.

• AWS and/or Azure cloud experience.

• Python development using Flask, Django, or FastAPI.

• Experience working with regulated laboratory and pharmaceutical environments.

• Principal Engineer, Lead Developer, Technical Lead, or Architect-level experience.

Ideal Candidate

LIMS Platform Experience

SAPIO LIMS is mandatory.

Candidates with experience in competing LIMS platforms such as the following may also be considered if they have strong LIMS implementation experience and the required Java/Spring background:

• LabVantage

• IDBS

• Benchling

However, SAPIO experience is strongly preferred and will be prioritized during screening.

Compensation will be based on experience, technical expertise, and market conditions.
