Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced Neo4j Subject Matter Expert (SME) with strong expertise in graph database technologies, particularly Neo4j. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in Neo4j database design, development, data modelling, migration, performance optimisation, and troubleshooting.

The candidate should be capable of supporting the migration of existing applications/data models to Neo4j and should have a strong understanding of existing/legacy application development, including Portico development knowledge, where applicable.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the Neo4j SME and provide technical guidance on graph database architecture, design, development, and implementation.
• Design and develop scalable Neo4j graph data models based on complex business and application requirements.
• Develop and optimise Cypher queries for efficient data retrieval and processing.
• Support migration of existing databases and applications to the Neo4j graph database platform.
• Analyse existing data structures and transform relational or legacy data models into appropriate graph-based models.
• Provide technical support for applications transitioning out of legacy or Portico-based development environments.
• Perform Neo4j database performance analysis, query tuning, indexing, and optimisation.
• Design appropriate nodes, relationships, properties, indexes, and constraints.
• Develop data ingestion and integration solutions for loading data into Neo4j.
• Troubleshoot database, application integration, data quality, and performance-related issues.
• Work closely with application developers, data engineers, architects, and business teams to translate functional requirements into graph-based technical solutions.
• Define Neo4j development standards, best practices, reusable components, and technical guidelines.
• Participate in architecture reviews, code reviews, solution design, and technical discussions.
• Support production deployments, upgrades, monitoring, and operational troubleshooting.
• Provide technical mentoring and knowledge transfer to development and support teams.
• Prepare and maintain technical documentation, architecture designs, data models, and implementation guidelines.

Required Skills

• 5+ years of experience in database development, data engineering, or related technologies.
• Strong hands-on expertise with Neo4j and graph database concepts.
• Strong knowledge of Cypher Query Language.
• Extensive experience in graph data modelling, including nodes, relationships, properties, indexes, and constraints.
• Experience with Neo4j database administration and performance optimisation.
• Strong understanding of relational and non-relational database concepts.
• Experience migrating data from traditional/legacy databases to Neo4j.
• Knowledge of ETL/data ingestion and database integration techniques.
• Experience integrating Neo4j with enterprise applications and APIs.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently as a technical SME and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
• Experience working with existing/legacy application development environments.
• Portico development knowledge would be an advantage.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with Java, Python, or similar programming languages.
• Knowledge of REST APIs and microservices.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
• Understanding of CI/CD and DevOps practices.
• Experience with large-scale graph datasets and high-performance database environments.
• Knowledge of data migration, modernisation, and application transformation programmes.

Educational Qualification

Bachelor s or Master s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline.
