STC is seeking candidates to hire a Senior DevOps Specialist to support the National Weather Service (NWS)

and Accenture Federal Services (AFS) on the AWIPS Application Environment contract. AWIPS (Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System) is the mission-critical platform used by forecasters at National Weather Service sites nationwide to analyze environmental data and issue the forecasts, watches, and warnings that help protect lives and property.

This role supports a cloud-native, web-based modernization effort for operational forecasting systems. The Senior DevOps Specialist will support the design, implementation, and maintenance of GitLab CI/CD pipelines, AWS infrastructure, and Kubernetes deployments for mission-critical applications supporting operational weather systems.

The successful candidate will work within a collaborative Agile development environment supporting automation, cloud-native infrastructure, containerized applications, and secure software delivery workflows. This position is ideal for an experienced DevOps professional interested in supporting large-scale modernization initiatives and operational federal systems.

Tech Stack: React micro-frontends, Python/Node.js microservices, AWS EKS, GitLab, CI/CD, Terraform, Docker/Kubernetes
Responsibilities CI/CD & Automation
  • Build and maintain GitLab CI/CD pipelines for micro-frontends and microservices.
  • Implement automated testing, security scanning (SAST/DAST), and deployments.
  • Manage container builds and AWS ECR container registry.
  • Configure GitOps workflows.
  • Implement blue-green and canary deployment strategies.
AWS Cloud Infrastructure
  • Provision infrastructure using Terraform (Infrastructure as Code).
  • Manage AWS services including EKS, Lambda, S3, RDS PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, Redis, CloudFront, API Gateway, and Application Load Balancers.
  • Implement auto-scaling, cost optimization, and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Support multi-region deployments and cloud infrastructure operations.
Kubernetes Operations
  • Deploy and manage Kubernetes workloads including Deployments, StatefulSets, and Horizontal Pod Autoscalers (HPA).
  • Create Helm charts for application packaging and deployments.
  • Troubleshoot pod failures and resource constraints.

Configure and support service mesh technologies such as Istio or Linkerd, as needed.
Security & Compliance
  • Ensure FISMA High and FedRAMP Moderate compliance requirements are supported.
  • Manage IAM policies, AWS Secrets Manager, and KMS encryption.
  • Configure WAF, Security Groups, and network security controls.
  • Support AWS Config and Security Hub audit activities.

Job Requirements

  • 3+ years of DevOps experience.
  • 2+ years of AWS experience including EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, and EKS.
  • 2+ years of experience with GitLab CI/CD (or GitHub Actions, Jenkins).
  • Strong Docker and Kubernetes experience.
  • Experience with scripting languages including Python, Bash, or Node.js.
  • Experience with Terraform or AWS CDK (Terraform preferred).
  • Linux administration experience and Bash/Python scripting skills.
  • Experience with Git version control and networking fundamentals including VPCs and load balancers.
Highly Desired
  • Federal government experience including FISMA, FedRAMP, or ATO environments.
  • AWS or Kubernetes certifications such as CKA, CKAD, or AWS Solutions Architect.
  • Experience with ArgoCD, Prometheus, and Grafana.
  • Familiarity with service mesh technologies such as Istio or Linkerd.
  • Experience supporting micro-frontend and microservices architectures.
  • Experience with monitoring tools including CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana, or Sentry.
Preferred Qualifications
  • AWS Certified Security - Specialty or CKA/CKS certification.

Experience supporting real-time web applications using technologies such as WebSocket or WebGL.
