Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop processes to ensure metallurgical integrity of cast turbine blades and vanes.
  • Develop and refine process parameters that impact solidification via gating, casting parameters and various heat transfer aids.
  • Develop and implement measures to ensure casting cleanliness, e.g. metal filtration, wax pattern dressing procedures and mold cleaning practices.
  • Specify and evaluate, as needed, refinement in mold making (investing) procedures.
  • Continuously improve processes to reduce casting scrap resulting from grain, x-ray, fluorescent penetrant, metallographic and visual examinations of the part.
  • Analyze and determine root cause of metallurgical defects utilizing non-destructive, destructive methods and metallographic tools.
  • Utilize statistical and graphical analysis techniques.
  • Initiate and interface with all levels of manufacturing, management, suppliers and customers.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical, Materials, Chemical or other related Engineering discipline.
  • Hands-on experience in the airfoils investment casting industry a plus
  • Proven analytical, problem solving, and process improvement ability
  • Working knowledge of process control methods
  • Demonstrated ability to develop & execute action plans that will deliver results
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities and easily adapt to changing situations and priorities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Demonstrated ability to lead programs/projects
  • Proficiency in a major, industry standard 3D CAD software package and solidification modeling a plus.
  • Working knowledge of Zero-Defect Program: PFMEA, Control Plan, Process Control
  • Six Sigma Certification a plus
