Job Description

Thermo Fisher Scientific is seeking a visionary and results-driven Director to lead the PCBA Center of Excellence (CoE) Value Engineering function. This enterprise leadership role is accountable for defining and executing the global PCBA modernization and value engineering strategy across multiple divisions and manufacturing sites.

The Director will establish governance, drive a multi-year productivity roadmap, and deliver measurable cost, lifecycle, and manufacturability improvements across the PCBA portfolio. This leader will operate at the intersection of Engineering, Operations, Procurement, Quality, and R&D, influencing executive stakeholders and enabling scalable, standardized best practices across the enterprise.

This role requires both deep technical expertise in PCBA design and manufacturing, and strong business acumen to translate engineering initiatives into enterprise-level financial impact.

What will you do?

Enterprise Strategy & Governance
  • Define and lead the global PCBA Value Engineering strategy aligned with enterprise productivity, modernization, and lifecycle objectives.
  • Establish governance models, operating cadence, KPIs, and reporting mechanisms to ensure transparency, accountability, and measurable results.
  • Develop and maintain a multi-year PCBA modernization roadmap tied to cost savings, risk mitigation, platform consolidation, and supply chain resilience.
  • Serve as executive-level technical authority for PCBA value engineering initiatives across divisions.

Program & Financial Leadership
  • Build and manage a robust pipeline of Value Engineering (VAVE) initiatives to achieve annual and long-range productivity targets.
  • Lead business case development including NPV, ROI, capital requirements, risk analysis, and resource planning.
  • Partner with Finance and Procurement to align savings recognition and investment prioritization.
  • Drive accelerated implementation of modernization and redesign programs to support NPIs and lifecycle management.

Technical & Organizational Leadership
  • Lead and develop a high-performing global team of electrical engineers focused on alternate component selection, redesign, validation, and supplier implementation.
  • Oversee complex PCBA redesign programs requiring cross-site validation, regulatory consideration, and supplier coordination.
  • Ensure technical rigor in component lifecycle management, obsolescence mitigation, and risk reduction strategies.

Cross-Functional & Supplier Engagement
  • Partner with R&D, Manufacturing, Quality, Operations, and Procurement leaders to align technical solutions with business priorities.
  • Support EMS Category Management through technical RFQ evaluation, VAVE ideation, and supplier capability assessments.
  • Drive strategic collaboration with Tier 1 and Tier 2 EMS partners to enhance manufacturing efficiency, test optimization, and cost structure.
  • Leverage the India Engineering Center and global design resources through a structured governance model to support divisional priorities.

Operational Excellence & Standardization
  • Identify enterprise-wide best practices and institutionalize standard work across divisions.
  • Enable platform consolidation, design harmonization, and test efficiency improvements.
  • Facilitate engineering changes through PLM systems while ensuring compliance with regulatory and quality standards.

How will you get here?

Education

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or related technical discipline preferred.

    • Electrical or electromechanical component engineering
    • Electrical systems and controls design
    • Power management systems
  • Proven experience leading complex, multi-site Value Engineering initiatives.
  • Strong financial acumen including business case development, ROI/NPV modeling, and productivity tracking.
