Overview

Metalcraft of Mayville\'s West Bend facility has an immediate opening for a 1st Shift Welding Department Lead in our Scag Welding area. Reporting to the Department Supervisor, the Weld Lead is primarily responsible for assisting the Supervisor in overseeing both the manual and robotic weld department. This person may perform all types of welding, as well as give instruction to the welders. This role is responsible for acting as a good role model for the rest of the development and for keeping the department organized and clean.

Responsibilities

Ability to perform all essential functions of the robotic welder and manual welder
Assists the Supervisor in directing the work activities of the welders
Works with both the robotic and manual welders to ensure parts are made correctly and schedule is being followed.
Keeps informed of any changes and new procedures throughout the day to stay on schedule.
Communicates information, assists in resolving problems and supports continuous improvement initiatives.
Monitors and maintains all equipment, machines and supplies within the department. Reports shortages to the department supervisor and performs necessary preventative maintenance.
Assists with cost savings, continuous improvements and more efficient ways to run the weld operations.
Follows all company rules, policies and regulations; ensuring compliance with corporate and plant safety standards.
Maintains company safety, quality, efficiency, and productivity standards.
Reads job specifications (e.g. blueprints, quality control plans and/or traveler notes) to determine type of welding and material requirements.
Uses equipment and supplies to perform work in accordance with operational standards.
Performs prescribed preventative maintenance on equipment and machines.
Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition and follows prescribed safety regulations.
May perform other related duties or work at different workstations as production needs require.
Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

High school degree, diploma or a GED equivalent qualification from an accredited institution.
An understanding of welding fundamentals
Basic welding experience and/or training
Basic knowledge of Mig Welding Equipment
Successful completion of internal weld test
Contributes to identifying problems and implementing appropriate countermeasures.
Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate with management and peers openly.
Ability to efficiently assist in leading a team and coordinate work with other departments.
Aptitude to take orders and execute the same efficiently.
Knowledge of welding equipment and tools, including their design, uses, repair and maintenance
Ability to read and interpret documents like blueprints, welding symbols, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
Basic Computer knowledge.
Must be able to help in ALL areas of the weld department, when needed.

Required Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Previous experience working within a highly technical environment.
  • Strong basic math skills.
  • Previous experience working within a weld department.
  • Previous forklift experience.
  • Exposure to a Lean manufacturing environment.
  • General understanding of Metric and Standard systems.
  • Associates degree in related technical field preferred.
  • Prior lead experience, preferably in a weld department.
  • Microsoft Office skills. Ideal candidate would also have SAP experience
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours as required

Equipment Operated : Forklift, welders, robots, lifts, overhead cranes, measurement devices, cleaning materials.
