Location: Plano, TX / Tampa, FL / Columbus, Ohio / Jersey City, NJ (FULLY ONSITE) About the RoleWe're looking for an experienced GDPS Implementation Engineer to join our Mainframe Engineering team. In this role, you will design, deploy, and support IBM Geographically Dispersed Parallel Sysplex (GDPS) solutions that ensure high availability, disaster recovery readiness, and continuous resilience for mission-critical mainframe environments. You will partner closely with infrastructure, storage, and automation teams to deliver reliable, compliant, and scalable systems aligned with enterprise business continuity objectives.
Responsibilities - Architect, implement, and optimize GDPS environments including Metro, Global Mirror, Metro Global Mirror, LCP, and Test Copy Manager solutions.
- Install, configure, and maintain IBM Z NetView and IBM System Automation for z/OS within the GDPS automation stack.
- Configure and manage IBM DS8000 storage systems, including Metro Mirror, Global Mirror, FlashCopy, and Safeguarded Copy.
- Develop and maintain GDPS automation scripts for planned/unplanned actions, disaster recovery workflows, and multisite switch scenarios.
- Monitor environment health using NetView panels, GDPS GUI, and SDF, and perform ongoing troubleshooting.
- Participate in disaster recovery tests, failover/failback cycles, and continuous availability exercises.
- Work cross-functionally with mainframe, network, and storage teams to ensure end-to-end system resiliency and alignment with regulatory standards.
- Create and maintain detailed documentation, runbooks, and operational best practices.
- Provide subject-matter expertise, mentorship, and technical guidance to operations and support teams.
Minimum Qualifications - 10+ years of experience with IBM mainframe systems, including z/OS, Parallel Sysplex, and data-sharing architectures.
- Hands-on experience with IBM GDPS (Metro, Global Mirror, MGM, or LCP).
- Strong understanding of IBM NetView, IBM System Automation for z/OS, and related automation components.
- Experience configuring IBM DS8000 storage replication technologies.
- Familiarity with IBM Z hardware management (HMC/SE, BCPii), LPAR operations, and Capacity on Demand features.
- Proficiency in scripting languages such as REXX or NetView command language.
- Solid grasp of disaster-recovery principles (RTO/RPO, consistency groups, failover strategies).
- Experience using mainframe monitoring and alerting tools.
- Knowledge of cross-site connectivity technologies (FICON, FCP, channel extension solutions).
- Strong communication, troubleshooting, and documentation skills.
- Working knowledge of RACF/ACF2 or equivalent security controls.
Preferred Qualifications - Experience with GDPS MGM4SITE implementations.
- Exposure to Logical Corruption Protection (LCP) and Test Copy Manager (TCM).
- Familiarity with IBM TS7700 virtualization and replication technologies.
- Experience integrating GDPS via RESTful APIs with automation/orchestration platforms.
- Relevant IBM or vendor certifications in mainframe, storage, or resiliency engineering.
EducationBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field-or equivalent professional experience.
