Role Overview
A Controls Engineer is needed to support Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) validation and data quality initiatives within a large, highly regulated industrial environment. This role focuses on automated Digital Cause & Effect (DiCE) metrics population, Cause & Effect (C&E) documentation validation, and comprehensive control system tag verification across multiple data sources.
A formal degree is not required; however, candidates with this level of experience typically have some technical or engineering education.
Key Responsibilities Digital Cause & Effect (DiCE) Metrics & Data Validation
- Populate and maintain automated DiCE metrics tables using established templates, rules, and validation criteria
- Clean, organize, and transform large datasets to ensure accurate and reliable metrics reporting
- Perform consistency and integrity checks across multiple data sources to verify alignment
- Track progress against defined validation milestones and provide regular status updates to project leadership
Cause & Effect (C&E) Documentation Review
- Perform detailed, tag-by-tag comparisons between C&E documentation and reference materials (e.g., instrument lists, I/O lists, logic narratives)
- Identify and document discrepancies such as:
- Missing or extra tags
- Naming inconsistencies
- Duplicate records
- Incorrect logic or association mappings
- Log findings in structured tracking tools with clear, repeatable evidence to support resolution
SIS & Controls Tag Validation
- Validate SIS and control system tags for completeness, accuracy, and consistency across documentation and control systems
- Execute repeatable validation checks across large document sets to support enterprise-scale validation efforts
- Escalate unresolved or complex discrepancies to senior SIS or controls engineers with concise summaries, impact assessments, and supporting documentation
Required Qualifications- Strong Excel and data-centric skill set, particularly with large and complex datasets
- High attention to detail with the ability to perform repetitive validation tasks accurately and consistently
- Strong organizational skills with a structured approach to documentation and issue tracking
- Clear written communication skills for technical issue logging and progress reporting
- Prior exposure to SIS, controls engineering, DCS/PLC systems, or instrumentation environments is strongly preferred
