Job Summary

Key responsibilities for this position include the following:
  • 50% of the duties will focus on research and development in machine learning, artificial intelligence, trustworthy multi-modal and multi-agent AI system design, AI security and risk, intelligent cyber-physical systems, and data science.
    • Develops a tail-based risk analysis and confidence measure for detecting rare and extreme ML agents.
    • Develops interdisciplinary, trustworthy, multi-modal, multi-agent AI applications for framework validation:
      • a. AI-driven ubiquitous application for cyber-readiness
      • b. Medical applications for well-being
  • 20% duties include demo preparation, coding and implementation, testbed development, testing, and result generation based on the developed Trustworthy AI infrastructure. Create audio-video presentations to present to technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • 10% duties include leadership, teamwork, and mentoring undergraduate student assistants in AI/ML development, Raspberry PI, sensors, robots, server computers, edge devices, and other technologies.
  • 20% duties for reading existing literature and writing scientific research papers based on research and development findings to submit to a peer-reviewed IEEE conference or journal. GRA will be responsible for doing other scientific work as needed.

Required Qualifications

To be considered for a graduate assistantship at the University of West Georgia (UWG), students must meet the following criteria:
  • Be fully admitted to a graduate degree program at UWG. Please note: Students admitted provisionally are not eligible for assistantship positions.
  • The candidate must have a bachelor's degree in computer science or an equivalent area.
  • Be enrolled full-time in a UWG graduate program during the assistantship period.
  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 in all previous and current graduate coursework and remain in good academic standing.
  • Meet eligibility requirements for employment in the United States.
  • The candidate must be a current University of West Georgia student enrolled in any School of Computing, Analytics, and Modeling graduate program.
  • Candidate must have working experience in machine learning, artificial intelligence, cyber-physical systems, embedded systems, and software development.
  • Experts in the Python platform and relevant libraries such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, Keras, and so on.
  • Habituate to any IDE such as PyCharm, Notebook, NetBeans, Eclipse, etc.
  • Working capability with several operating systems, such as Linux (i.e., Ubuntu), Raspberry Pi, Windows OS, and Mac.
  • Knowledgeable in fundamental mathematics such as linear algebra, matrices, and calculus.
  • Hands-on experience with any programming language, including Python, Java, C#, etc.
  • Problem-solving capabilities, eagerness to learn new technologies, and the capability to meet deadlines.
  • Experience in technical writing.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in developing machine learning models for the medical and cyber domains will be a plus.
  • Experience in working on embedding systems is preferred.
  • Commitment of 20 hours per week is expected during weekdays.
  • Time management skills to meet the deadline.
  • Based on the nature of tasks, expected to work in person in an intelligent cyber-physical system laboratory environment.

Proposed Salary

  • A monthly stipend of $1,200.00 per month
  • A tuition waiver, reducing your semester rate to $25 plus mandatory fees as long as you are employed in your assistantship.
