Summary

SciTec, a wholly owned subsidiary of Firefly Aerospace, is a dynamic non-traditional defense contractor that delivers advanced technologies in support of U.S. National Security and Defense. For the past forty-five plus years, we have supported Department of Defense customers by developing innovative remote sensing algorithms, tools, and techniques to deliver world-class data exploitation capabilities supporting missile defense; intelligence, surveillance, & reconnaissance; space domain awareness; and aircraft survivability missions.

Important Notice: SciTec exclusively works on U.S. government contracts that require U.S. citizenship for all employees. SciTec cannot sponsor or assume sponsorship of employee work visas of any type. Further, U.S. citizenship is a requirement to obtain and keep a security clearance. Applicants that do not meet these requirements will not be considered.

SciTec is seeking a Systems Engineer with experience in software-defined sensor data processing pipelines and supporting computaional systems to support the Ground-Based Radar Digitization (GBRD) modernization program. This engineer will be responsible for use case development, requirements definition, architecture development, and verification support for a modernized, software-centric radar data processing backend system.

Responsibilities
  • Requirements Development & Traceability - Derive, refine, and manage system-level and subsystem-level requirements for software processing flows including data ingest, timing/synchronization, signal processing outputs, interfaces. Define requirements constraining the system design, including latency, throughput, cybersecurity requirements, and space/weight/power constraints. Maintain full traceability of requirements within a digital engineering environment.
  • Systems Architecture & Interface Definition - Develop a high-level software architecture for deploying signal processing services within a Kubernetes-based environment. Support the design of computing infrastructure which can execute the designed software architecture. Ensure that the resulting system is modular, open, interoperable, and addresses cybersecurity requirements.
  • Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) - Create and maintain MBSE artifacts (SysML diagrams, functional flows, ICDs represented as digital models) that describe system behavior, support design decisions, and drive verification planning.
  • Integration & Verification Planning - Define integration strategies for software-processing components. Support system-in-the-loop testbed planning, verification event preparation, and validation of processing chains against mission needs.
  • Cross-Team Coordination - Collaborate with radar-frontend teams, signal processing algorithm developers, cybersecurity, mission operations stakeholders, MBSE validators, and government technical directors to ensure system alignment, risk reduction, and requirement compliance.
  • Risk Management & Configuration Control - Identify and track technical risks for the processing architecture and supporting computing infrastructure. Support configuration management processes within the centralized digital repository.
  • Support Technical Communication - Develop artifacts and communicate effectively in support of external program reviews and internal design meetings.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Engineering, or related technical field.
  • 5+ years of experience in systems engineering for sensor systems, large-scale real-time systems, or mission-critical software-processing pipelines.
  • Experience developing or maintaining system architectures, requirements, and interface specifications for data-processing systems.
  • Familiarity with the design and architecture of high-throughput sensor data processing systems.
  • Familiarity with model-based systems engineering tools and techniques.
  • Strong technical communications skills for cross-functional collaboration
  • U.S. Citizenship with ability to obtain and maintain a DoD clearance.

Candidates meeting the following criteria will be preferred:
  • Experience with radar-processing architectures.
  • Experience in developing modular and open systems architectures.
  • Experience with Kubernetes or high-performance computing environments.
  • Experience supporting software-in-the-loop or hardware-in-the-loop integration environments.
  • Familiarity with digital twin approaches or large-scale MBSE repositories.
  • Familiarity with DoD cybersecurity (NIST 800-53) and program protection processes.
  • Active DoD security clearance.
