U.S. Citizenship required Job OverviewWe are seeking a
Senior Linux Systems Administrator to support and secure enterprise Linux environments in a Department of Defense (DoD)-regulated setting. This role is responsible for administering, hardening, and maintaining Linux-based infrastructure across physical and virtual environments while ensuring continuous compliance with cybersecurity frameworks such as
RMF, STIGs, CMMC, and NIST.
The ideal candidate has deep Linux systems experience, a strong security mindset, and the ability to automate and standardize system operations in high-availability environments.
Responsibilities- Configure, deploy, administer, and support Linux-based systems (Red Hat, Rocky, Ubuntu) across production and non-production environments
- Implement and maintain system hardening using STIGs and security baselines
- Identify, analyze, and remediate vulnerabilities uncovered through scans, audits, and compliance reviews
- Support Risk Management Framework (RMF) activities, including documentation and control implementation
- Automate system administration tasks using Ansible, scripting (Bash, Python), and centralized management tools
- Manage centralized Linux infrastructure using tools such as Red Hat Satellite, Foreman, or Ansible
- Integrate Linux systems with Windows Active Directory / LDAP for identity, authentication, and access control
- Assist with the installation and support of development and engineering tools
- Serve as a technical escalation point for Linux-related incidents, troubleshooting, and projects
- Produce and maintain detailed configuration, security, and maintenance documentation
- Participate in a modest-level 24x7 on-call rotation supporting mission-critical systems
Required Qualifications- 7+ years of Linux system administration experience in enterprise environments
- Strong expertise with Linux distributions (RHEL, Ubuntu, CentOS, Rocky, Amazon Linux)
- Hands-on experience with Linux system hardening, STIG implementation, and vulnerability remediation
- Experience with Ansible for configuration management and automation
- Experience integrating Linux systems with Active Directory / LDAP
- Familiarity with RMF and compliance-driven environments
- Proficiency in Bash and/or Python scripting
- Experience managing systems in virtualized environments
- DoD 8140-compliant certification (or ability to obtain)
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
Preferred Qualifications- Experience supporting systems in AWS environments
- Experience working with ESS (Enterprise Support Services)
- Knowledge of and experience with NIST 800-53 and NIST 800-171
- Understanding of the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) and CUI handling requirements
- Prior experience in DoD, federal government, or defense contractor environments
