DescriptionTechnician II - Job DescriptionOverviewThe Communications Technician II is a skilled lead level technician responsible for performing advanced cabling tasks while guiding small teams of installers. This role ensures all work meets IES COMMERCIAL safety, quality, and performance standards.
Primary ResponsibilitiesWorkstation & Horizontal Cabling Installation- Install work-area outlets in floors, walls, and modular furniture.
- Terminate CAT3 and CAT5 jacks, mount faceplates, and install surface-mount boxes.
- Follow all IES COMMERCIAL labeling and installation standards.
Closet & Backbone Infrastructure- Build and organize telecom closets, including mounting backboards, racks, cross-connects, patch panels, and fiber hardware.
- Install grounding for equipment, racks, and cables as required.
- Complete all IDC connections: 110/66 blocks, patch panels, and related hardware.
Testing & Troubleshooting- Perform continuity testing on horizontal and riser cables.
- Use volt-ohmmeters, tone sets, and related diagnostic tools.
- Identify and troubleshoot opens, crosses, shorts, and transposed pairs.
- Locate active voice and data circuits.
Crew Leadership- Lead small groups of installers in daily tasks and project execution.
- Provide hands-on training and ensure team adherence to quality and safety standards.
- Coordinate personnel, workflow, and timelines to meet project goals.
Documentation & Reporting- Complete all required IES COMMERCIAL paperwork accurately and on time:
- Timesheets
- Work orders
- Material transfers
- Change orders
- Tool transfers
- Maintain compliance with safety regulations, customer requirements, and industry standards.
Additional Duties- Follow all company, customer, and industry quality/safety guidelines.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by project leadership.

- Krone/3M/BIX tools
Required Skills- Data center experience
- J-hooks & pathway installation
- Cable terminations and color-code proficiency
- Low-voltage wiring and telecom installation
- Rack assembly, rack & stack, ladder rack
- Fiber installation and cable testing
- CCTV/security system familiarity
- Punchdowns, crimping, and troubleshooting
- Basic project coordination and crew supervision
Preferred Qualifications- BICSI Certification
- Experience with material management
- Strong client interaction skills
Experience LevelIntermediate-Level Technician with demonstrated field experience in structured cabling and low-voltage installation environments.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Goodyear, AZ.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $22.00 - $24.00/hr.
