Summary

The Equity Research Technology team at Balyasny is dedicated to developing and maintaining a world-class suite of tools designed to empower our portfolio managers and their teams. Our tools cover a wide range of areas, including Research Management, Idea Generation, Professional Development, Broker Relations, and Portfolio Construction & Analytics. We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Lead to join our dynamic team and drive projects and help grow the team. In this role, you will contribute to the enhancement and support of our research products, which deliver both traditional and alternative research insights to investment users and the executive management team.

Role Overview:
  • Work closely with the portfolio manager development team to architect and build cutting-edge front office applications.
  • Collaborate in a fast-paced team environment to understand, engineer, and deliver on business requirements.
  • Responsible for end-to-end design, architecture, and delivery.
  • Lead engineering efforts, drive key projects, and set technical direction.
  • Strike a balance along the dimensions of feasibility, stability, scalability, and time-to-market when delivering solutions.
  • Work on equity research generation, fundamental modeling, and analytics applications.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to evolve technical product designs and clarify requirements.
  • Ensure the quality and accuracy of all products released to the investment staff.

Qualifications & Requirements:
  • 8-10+ years of experience as a full stack Developer, proficient in C#, Python, .NET, and APIs.
  • Project management and ability to run multiple concurrent projects.
  • Mentorship and guidance of other engineers is a core responsibility
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships with tech, product, and stakeholders.
  • Solid understanding of React.js and its core principles, experience in architecting and building backend applications.
  • Strong knowledge of MSSQL, including query building, table design, and performance tuning.
  • Proficient in the full scope of application development, including authentication, API integration, build processes, testing, validation, and state management.
  • Experience with code optimization, performance tuning, and source code control (preferably Git).
  • Self-starter with strong analytical skills, capable of troubleshooting and working independently.
  • Passionate about leveraging technology to solve business problems of all sizes.

Additional experience in the following areas is a plus:
  • Experience building user-facing web applications and Restful APIs.
  • Familiarity with the latest LLM technologies and libraries (e.g., OpenAI API, Langchain, Llama).
  • Experience with databases like MongoDB, Column Store, Open Search.
  • Knowledge of Agile Development/SCRUM methodologies.
  • Experience with financial market data from Bloomberg, Reuters, or similar sources.
  • Background in the hedge fund industry or financial software (e.g., research, risk management, portfolio accounting).
