The Impact You'll Make in this Role
As an Advanced Research Engineer - Ceramics Focus, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:
  • Operating as a critical member of a multidisciplinary technology development team
  • Identifying and developing new ceramic applications through process development and experimentation
  • Driving the implementation of new ceramic technologies into existing and future product lines
  • Documenting, communicating, and disseminating research results to team members, business partners, and global stakeholders
  • Driving successful technology scale-up from laboratory scale to full manufacturing
  • Troubleshooting manufacturing process disruptions and product quality issue

Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, chemistry, or a material science discipline from an accredited institution, completed and verified prior to start.
  • Two (2) years of academic or industrial experience in ceramic processing, including forming and sintering techniques in a private, public, government or military environment

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
  • Advanced degree (MS or Ph.D.) in engineering, chemistry, or material science from an accredited university
  • 5+ years of industrial experience in ceramic processing, including forming and sintering techniques
  • Direct experience with fabrication and synthesis processes for ceramics
  • Proven track record using Design of Experiments (DOE) to solve complex technical problems
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to translate complex data for multidisciplinary teams
  • Highly inquisitive mindset with a demonstrated ability to collaborate in a fast-paced, technical environment.

  • 3M Center, Maplewood, MN

Travel: May include up to 10% domestic/international

Relocation Assistance: May be authorized

This range represents a good faith estimate for this position. The specific compensation offered to a candidate may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's relevant knowledge, training, skills, work location, and/or experience.
