Overview
DecisionPoint seeks a Configuration Specialist to support enterprise Configuration Management (CM) operations for a large federal and DoD-aligned mission environment. This role ensures CMDB accuracy, updates configuration item (CI) records, manages asset relationships, supports CM audits, and maintains data integrity across baselines and operational environments.
The Configuration Specialist will work closely with the CM Lead, cybersecurity teams, DevSecOps engineers, system administrators, and the PMO to maintain accurate, up-to-date configuration data that supports compliance, audit readiness, and secure system operations.
This position is fully remote.

Duties & Responsibilities
The Configuration Specialist will:

This role ensures CMDB accuracy, updates configuration item (CI) records, manages asset relationships, supports CM audits, and maintains data integrity across baselines and operational environments.
The Configuration Specialist will work closely with the CM Lead, cybersecurity teams, DevSecOps engineers, system administrators, and the PMO to maintain accurate, up-to-date configuration data that supports compliance, audit readiness, and secure system operations.

Duties & Responsibilities
The Configuration Specialist will:
- Maintain CMDB accuracy by adding, updating, validating, and reconciling CI records.
- Manage CI relationships, attributes, and lifecycle data to ensure traceability across systems.
- Support CM audits, CI verification activities, and reconciliation tasks.
- Identify and correct discrepancies, outdated data, or misaligned CI attributes.
- Update baselines and document configuration changes in alignment with CM governance processes.
- Coordinate with the CM Lead on configuration control workflows, documentation updates, and process improvements.
- Work with cybersecurity and ISSM teams to ensure CI data aligns with RMF artifacts and control requirements.
- Support inventory tracking, asset management, and system configuration validation efforts.
- Assist release and DevSecOps teams with configuration-related information needed for deployments or pipeline activities.
- Produce reports, CI summaries, and data extracts for technical teams and government stakeholders.
- Maintain CM documentation, SOPs, diagrams, and CI attribute definitions.
- Support efforts to reduce configuration drift and strengthen data integrity across environments.
- Clearance Requirement
Must hold an active Top Secret clearance, supported by a Tier 5 background investigation.
Education (Required)
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Information Science, Computer Science, or a related field.
Experience (Required)
- Minimum 5 years of experience in configuration management, CMDB administration, IT asset management, or enterprise IT operations.
- Experience updating CI records and maintaining CMDB accuracy.
- Experience participating in CM audits, CI reconciliation, or baseline validation.
- Experience supporting configuration governance, documentation, or asset tracking processes.
- Experience collaborating with engineering, cybersecurity, or operations teams on CI-related tasks.
Technical Knowledge (Required)
- Strong understanding of configuration management principles and CI lifecycle processes.
- Knowledge of CMDB structures, CI relationships, and attribute modeling.
- Familiarity with ITIL v4 practices related to configuration management and change control.
- Understanding of data integrity, audit requirements, and baseline management.
Technical Knowledge (Preferred)
- Experience with automated asset discovery tools or CM automation platforms.
- Familiarity with cloud-native CI attributes and hybrid infrastructure components.
- Experience with configuration validation tools or inventory management systems.
Certifications
Required:
- ITIL v4 Foundation
- CMDB-related certification
Preferred:
- Additional DoD 8570/8140 certifications
- CM-specific certifications (e.g., CMII, CMPIC)
Skills
- Strong attention to detail for managing configuration data and identifying discrepancies.
- Excellent organizational and documentation skills.
- Solid analytical abilities for reconciling CI attributes, relationships, and baselines.
- Effective communication skills for coordinating with technical and non-technical teams.
- Ability to manage multiple CM tasks in a fast-paced mission environment.
