Business Analyst

Role Overview

We are seeking a Technical Business Analyst to support API-driven initiatives within a fast-paced, high-visibility environment. This role requires someone who is well-spoken, confident, and professional, with the ability to work closely with engineering, product, and business partners.
This is a hands-on role, not a documentation-only BA position. The team currently lacks someone who can test APIs and write clear, technical requirements, and this role will directly fill that gap.

Key Responsibilities

Technical & API Responsibilities

• Perform hands-on API testing using Postman, validating request/response behavior, status codes, and data accuracy
• Document and validate RESTful API requirements, including endpoints, payloads, and error handling
• Read, analyze, and map JSON and XML data structures
• Partner with developers to clarify API contracts and reduce rework
• Validate backend data using SQL (joins, subqueries, basic data profiling)

Business Analysis Responsibilities

• Elicit and translate business needs into clear functional and non-functional requirements
• Write technical user stories and acceptance criteria that developers can execute without additional clarification
• Conduct gap analysis between current systems and future API capabilities
• Create As-Is / To-Be process flows using BPMN or UML
• Treat APIs as products by considering usability, versioning, and downstream impact

Required Skills & Experience

• 3-5+ years of work as a Technical Business Analyst or Systems Analyst
• Hands-on API testing experience using Postman (required)
• Experience writing technical requirements for development teams
• Strong understanding of RESTful APIs
• Experience with Jira, Confluence, LucidCharts, Visio, or similar tools
• Strong communication skills with the ability to work directly with developers and business stakeholders
• Comfortable operating in an onsite, high-visibility environment

Nice to Have

• Financial Services, Banking, Mortgage, or FinTech experience
• Experience with Swagger / OpenAPI
• Familiarity with authentication and security concepts (OAuth2, JWT, API keys)
• Prior experience working in fast-moving or lightly structured teams

Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Raleigh, NC.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $55.00/hr.
