About the Role
We are undergoing a large-scale data transformation initiative involving data migration, cleansing, mapping, and hierarchy redesign across critical business systems. As data is migrated into the new environment, the organization needs a consultant who can help ensure data is categorized correctly, business requirements are accurately represented, and data quality concerns are proactively addressed. The consultant will also apply data science and AI/ML methods to support data quality, classification, validation, and migration decision-making.

This role will serve as a liaison between business stakeholders and technical teams, helping facilitate discussions around product hierarchies, data organization, categorization, and migration accuracy. The ideal candidate is comfortable navigating both business and technical conversations and can work independently within an established migration process.
Key Responsibilities:

• Partner with business stakeholders to understand how products, categories, and organizational hierarchies are structured and maintained.
• Facilitate discussions between business users and technical teams regarding data mapping and migration requirements.
• Review migrated data and identified inconsistencies, categorization issues, hierarchy conflicts, and data quality concerns.
• Apply data science and AI/ML techniques to identify patterns, anomalies, classification issues, and opportunities to improve migration quality and decision-making.
• Validate that data is accurately represented within new systems and aligns with business expectations.
• Collaborate with data migration teams and external partners to resolve mapping and classification issues.
• Gather and document business requirements related to data structures, hierarchies, and taxonomy definitions.
• Translate technical findings into business-friendly language and communicate impacts, risks, and recommendations.
• Support ongoing data cleanup initiatives and help improve data governance processes.
• Work with business leaders to establish validation criteria and acceptance standards for migrated data.
• Track issues, document resolutions, and ensure follow-through on identified data quality gaps.

Required Qualifications:

• 5+ years of experience in Business Analysis, Data Analysis, Data Governance, Master Data Management, or related disciplines.
• Experience supporting data migration, data transformation, data cleanup, or system implementation initiatives.
• Hands-on experience using data science and AI/ML techniques in a business data, migration, data quality, classification, or analytics context.
• Required domain experience in either ecommerce data and processes or Master Data Management (MDM).
• Strong understanding of data mapping, validation, reconciliation, and data quality processes.
• Proven ability to facilitate discussions between business stakeholders and technical teams.
• Strong requirements gathering and documentation skills.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to work independently with minimal oversight.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.

Nice to have:

• Experience working with retail, merchandising, product catalog, or inventory data.
• Experience supporting ERP, PIM, PLM, RMS, or enterprise data transformation projects.
• Experience with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) and Retail Merchandising System (RMS) platforms, including RMS data flows into MDM, is strongly preferred.
• Candidates without this background must be able to learn these systems and data relationships quickly.
• Familiarity with data governance principles and hierarchy management.
• Experience working with offshore development or implementation teams.
• Knowledge of product taxonomies, categorization structures, and business data models.
• Basic SQL or data querying experience is preferred but not required.
