Job Summary
You are the voice of the user and the business for our Alation platform. As the Alation Product Manager, you will own the vision, roadmap, and adoption of Alation as an internal product serving thousands of data consumers, stewards, and engineers across our global organization. Your mission is to ensure Alation becomes indispensable for finding, understanding, trusting, and governing data directly impacting our ability to innovate, comply with regulations, and manage risk.
Key Responsibilities
Product Vision & Strategy: Define and communicate the strategic vision for Alation within our financial ecosystem. Align the roadmap with enterprise goals: regulatory compliance (BCBS 239, CCAR), risk reduction, data democratization, and analytics acceleration.
Roadmap Ownership: Develop and maintain a prioritized product roadmap. Balance high-impact enterprise initiatives (e.g., "Automated Lineage for All Regulatory Reports") with foundational improvements (e.g., "Enhancing Search Relevance").
User-Centric Discovery: Conduct ongoing research with key financial user personas: Quantitative Analysts, Risk Managers, Compliance Officers, Data Stewards, and Business Analysts. Translate their pain points such as tracing P&L attribution or finding certified customer data into clear requirements.
Feature Definition & Prioritization: Write detailed user stories and requirements for new capabilities, configurations, and integrations. Prioritize based on user value, compliance imperative, and strategic impact. Work closely with the Alation Admin/Engineering team to execute.
Adoption & Value Realization: Define and track product success metrics (e.g., Monthly Active Users, search-to-connect rate, stewardship completion rates). Develop strategies to increase adoption and demonstrate ROI to executive sponsors.
Stakeholder Alignment: Partner closely with the Data Governance Office, Risk & Compliance, IT, and Business Unit leaders to ensure Alation evolves to meet their needs and regulatory mandates. Run regular roadmap reviews.
Market & Platform Awareness: Stay abreast of Alation s product releases and the competitive landscape. Advocate for and plan the adoption of new Alation features that benefit our financial use cases.
Required Qualifications & Experience
5+ years of product management experience, with at least 2+ years managing a data platform or enterprise software product.
Proven experience within Financial Services (Banking, Capital Markets, Asset Management, Insurance). Must understand the data lifecycle, key regulations, and user workflows in this context.
Hands-on experience with Alation, Collibra, or a similar enterprise data catalog/governance platform as a PM, power user, or admin.
Demonstrated ability to develop product roadmaps, write user stories, and prioritize using frameworks (RICE, WSJF).
Strong analytical skills with experience defining KPIs and using data (including product analytics) to drive decisions.
Exceptional communication and influence skills, capable of engaging both technical teams and C-level executives (CDO, CRO).
Bachelor s degree in Business, Finance, Computer Science, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
Direct experience as a Product Manager for an internal data platform or catalog.
User experience design sensibilities and experience working with UX researchers/designers.
Technical understanding of metadata, SQL, BI tools (Tableau, Power BI), and cloud data platforms (Snowflake, Databricks).
Certifications such as Alation Certified Expert, Pragmatic Marketing, or similar.
