Horton, Inc. has an opening for an Injection Mold Technician to work in our Westminster, SC location. This is a 1st shift position and standard work hours are Monday-Thursday 7:30 am - 5:30 pm. Occasional overtime may be required. Pay starts at $22.38 per hour and depends on experience.

This position is primarily responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining injection molding machines used to manufacture plastic components.

Responsibilities

Mold Technician Responsibilities:

  • Change molds and inserts as needed, install water lines to molds and temperature control units (TCUs, Thermolators) per setup sheet.
  • Load correct programs and verify proper Injection Molding Machine (IMM) set-ups in a safe and effective manner.
  • Complete insert changes in a timely and safe manner
  • Possess basic mechanical aptitude which includes but is not limited to the following: hand tools, pneumatic tools, measuring tools, and machine operations.
  • Have basic understanding and operations of overhead crane/hoist systems.
  • Responsible for daily silo counting of resin and daily moisture readings.
  • Ensure work area is clean and clear of tools, hoses, and other equipment when setups are complete.
  • Basic understanding of how to operate the material feed system.
  • Perform basic PMs on injection molds and equipment.
  • Basic understanding of how to clean and lube all injection molds.
  • Able to perform weekly material feed system PMs based according to guidelines.
  • Able to perform daily/weekly/monthly Mold Machine PMs according to guidelines.
  • Take inventory of consumable supplies and resins.
  • Perform quality checks and record as required per guidelines.
  • Communicate any pertinent information to incoming and outgoing shifts as needed.
  • Start-up molding machines with accuracy to ensure there is limited scrap using the latest setup parameters assuring job is running at standard.
  • Shut down molding machines with accuracy to ensure limited purging is needed to prevent wasted material.
  • Complete scrap recording as needed per shift.
  • Initiate mold repair sheets and tickets when molds are pulled. Initiate maintenance work orders when machines or auxiliary equipment need repair.
  • Have a basic understanding of robotics operations, job change-over procedures, molding terminology, and molding defects.
  • Perform minor mold/press repairs (exp. water lines, nozzle tip replacements) and work closely with maintenance and engineering to ensure machines are repaired and operational.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot ancillary equipment including dryers, thermolators, and conveying systems.
  • Responsible for Oracle transactions such as verifying proper work orders, part numbers, entering scrap and recording downtime reasons.
  • Responsible for 6S in the IMM and Technician areas.
  • Complete daily safety activities including hoist and machinery inspections.
  • Relieve operators for break as needed.
  • Understand the need for safety and PPE protocols and how to use them.
  • As with everyone on the team, other duties may be assigned to support the overall success of the company.


Qualifications

Mold Tech Qualifications:

  • Requires a high school diploma, or GED.
  • Requires 2 years of related technical training or equivalent of 4 years technical work experience.
  • Experience as a molding technician and/or mold setter is preferred.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States. No Visa sponsorship provided now or in the future for this position.
