Security Operations Engineer

Role Summary

We are seeking a Security Operations Engineer to serve as a key contributor within a mature cybersecurity program. This individual will lead initiatives focused on data protection, Zero Trust security, threat detection, incident response, and enterprise risk reduction while acting as a subject matter expert for Microsoft Purview and Zscaler technologies.

In this role, you will partner with infrastructure, cloud, compliance, legal, and business teams to design, implement, and enhance enterprise security controls. You will play a critical role in protecting organizational assets, improving security operations, driving automation, and supporting strategic cybersecurity initiatives across hybrid environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer and optimize Microsoft Purview solutions including Data Loss Prevention, Information Protection, Insider Risk Management, eDiscovery, Compliance Manager, and Information Governance

• Lead the implementation, configuration, and ongoing support of Zscaler Internet Access and Zscaler Private Access technologies

• Develop and maintain data classification, sensitivity labeling, and information governance strategies to protect sensitive organizational data

• Investigate, respond to, and coordinate security incidents from identification through remediation and recovery

• Perform threat hunting, proactive monitoring, root cause analysis, and security investigations across enterprise environments

• Manage vulnerability assessment activities and collaborate with stakeholders to prioritize remediation efforts and reduce organizational risk

• Develop automation solutions using PowerShell, Python, Bash, APIs, and security orchestration workflows to improve operational efficiency

• Partner with cross functional teams to enhance security architecture, strengthen Zero Trust initiatives, and improve security visibility across cloud, network, and endpoint environments

Key Requirements

• 8 or more years of cybersecurity, information security, or security operations experience

• 5 or more years of hands on experience implementing and supporting Microsoft Purview solutions

• 5 or more years of experience implementing and supporting Zscaler technologies including ZIA and ZPA

• Strong experience with Endpoint Detection and Response platforms, Security Information and Event Management solutions, threat hunting, incident response, and vulnerability management

• Deep understanding of Microsoft 365 security and compliance technologies

• Experience supporting Windows and Linux operating systems within enterprise environments

• Strong knowledge of networking technologies including TCP IP, DNS, HTTP, SSL TLS, VPN technologies, and network security principles

• Experience developing scripts and automation solutions using PowerShell, Python, Bash, or similar languages

• Experience with Microsoft Defender XDR, Microsoft Sentinel, cloud security platforms, and hybrid infrastructure security

• Knowledge of Zero Trust Architecture, data protection frameworks, information governance, and compliance requirements

• Experience supporting Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud environments

• Preferred certifications include CISSP, GIAC, Microsoft Security Certifications, Microsoft Purview Certifications, CEH, Security+, Linux+, Zscaler Certified Administrator, or Zscaler Certified Professional

• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem solving skills

• Excellent communication skills with the ability to present technical findings and risk recommendations to executive and nontechnical stakeholders

• Ability to work collaboratively across technical, operational, legal, compliance, and business teams

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in regulated environments supporting SOC 2, PCI DSS, HIPAA, FedRAMP, NIST, or similar frameworks

• Knowledge of digital forensics, malware analysis, intrusion detection, and advanced threat investigations

• Experience with container security and cloud native security controls

• Experience managing enterprise security initiatives, security vendors, and strategic cybersecurity programs

• Ability to identify and respond to sophisticated threats across complex hybrid infrastructures
