Summary

Job Overview

We are seeking a Senior Data Engineer to support our Federal Government Customer with delivering secure, cloud-based mission systems. The Engineer will own the end-to-end technical design across full-stack applications, microservices, and AWS infrastructure, setting architectural direction and guiding a team of engineers through delivery. This role spans front-end (React, JavaScript, HTML/CSS), back-end (Java, Spring Boot, Python, Apache Camel, GraphQL), data, and cloud layers - translating mission requirements into scalable, maintainable solutions that meet federal compliance requirements (NIST 800-53, FedRAMP, DHS 4300A). The ideal candidate is a hands-on technical leader who can move fluidly between whiteboard design, code review, and stakeholder briefings, and who has a track record of leading architecture for complex distributed systems in regulated environments.

**Hybrid role - one day on-site, four days remote

Core Responsibilities
  • Lead the end-to-end architecture for secure, cloud-based mission applications, spanning front-end, back-end, microservices, data, and AWS infrastructure layers.
  • Define and maintain reference architectures, design patterns, API contracts, and architectural decision records (ADRs) that guide the engineering team and ensure consistency across the program.
  • Architect microservices-based solutions using Java, Spring Boot, and Apache Camel, with well-defined integration patterns over REST, GraphQL, XML, and JSON.
  • Direct front-end architecture using React, JavaScript, and HTML/CSS, establishing component standards, state-management patterns, and accessibility/Section 508 compliance.
  • Design database schemas and data engineering solutions across multiple platforms (relational and NoSQL), including data modeling, performance tuning, and migration strategy.
  • Architect AWS deployments using EC2, ECS, EBS, RDS Postgres, ALBs, Lambda, S3, and Amazon MQ - defining networking, scaling, resilience, and cost-optimization strategies.
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership: review code and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform), conduct design reviews, and resolve cross-team architectural issues.
  • Establish CI/CD and DevSecOps standards in partnership with platform teams, leveraging Git, Jenkins, Terraform, and Vault to automate secure build, deploy, and release workflows.
  • Embed security and compliance controls (NIST 800-53, FedRAMP, DHS 4300A) into all architectural designs, supporting ATO activities and POA&M remediation.
  • Mentor and develop senior and mid-level engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, code quality, and continuous improvement.
  • Engage directly with government stakeholders to present architectural decisions, trade-off analyses, and roadmap recommendations, translating technical concepts for non-technical audiences.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies, conduct proofs-of-concept, and recommend strategic investments aligned to long-term mission needs.

Requirements
  • Must be able to pass a full background check and obtain a Public Trust 6C
  • Eight (8) years of Information Assurance experience
  • Experience with the following technologies:
    • Database Design and Data Engineering in multiple platforms
    • Java
    • Springboot
    • Python
    • MicroServices
    • XML
    • JSON
    • Camel
    • GraphQL
    • Javascript
    • React
    • HTML, CSS
    • RHEL
    • AWS (EC2, EBS, ECS, RDS Postrgres, ALBs, Lamda, S3, Amazon MQ)
    • Git
    • Jenkins
    • Terraform
    • Vault

Preferred Additional Skills and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field.
