  1. Job Summary

The IBM AIX Engineer is responsible for the administration, support, maintenance, and optimization of IBM Power Systems running the AIX operating system. This role supports mission-critical enterprise environments, ensuring high availability, performance, security, and compliance of AIX infrastructure. The engineer will work closely with PowerVM, storage, network, database, application, and security teams to support ongoing operations, modernization initiatives, and infrastructure projects.

  1. Years of Experience Required

5+ years of hands-on experience administering IBM AIX environments in enterprise-scale production environments.

  1. Technical/Other Expertise (Mandatory)
  • 5+ years of IBM AIX administration experience.
  • Strong knowledge of IBM Power Systems hardware.
  • Experience with PowerVM virtualization technologies, including LPAR management.
  • Experience administering VIOS (Virtual I/O Server) environments.
  • Proficiency with AIX system installation, configuration, patching, upgrades, and migrations.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills related to operating system, performance, storage, and networking issues.
  • Experience with SAN-attached storage and multipathing technologies.
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP networking and related services.
  • Shell scripting experience (ksh, bash, perl, or Python) for automation.
  • Experience implementing AIX security best practices and compliance requirements.
  • Familiarity with IBM systems management tools such as HMC and NIM.
  • Experience supporting mission-critical production environments and participating in incident response activities.
  1. Technical Expertise/Other (Good to Have)
  • Experience with IBM Power10 and Power11 platforms.
  • Knowledge of IBM PowerSC security solutions.
  • Experience with Live Partition Mobility (LPM).
  • Familiarity with monitoring tools such as Dynatrace, Splunk, or similar platforms.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code and automation tools (Ansible, Terraform, etc.).
  • Knowledge of IBM Spectrum Scale (GPFS).
  • Experience supporting SAP, Oracle, DB2, or other enterprise applications on AIX.
  • Understanding of CIS benchmarks and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Experience with cloud integration and hybrid infrastructure environments.
  • Familiarity with Agile, ITIL, and Change Management processes.
  1. Key Job Responsibilities
  • Administer and support IBM AIX operating systems across enterprise production environments.
  • Perform system maintenance, patching, upgrades, and technology refresh activities.
  • Manage PowerVM virtualized environments, including LPAR creation, modification, and optimization.
  • Support and maintain VIOS infrastructure to ensure availability and performance.
  • Troubleshoot complex operating system, hardware, storage, and application issues.
  • Monitor system health, capacity, and performance, implementing proactive improvements as needed.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure, application, database, storage, and network teams to deliver solutions.
  • Participate in incident, problem, and change management activities.
  • Implement and maintain security controls, system hardening, and compliance standards.
  • Maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, and support runbooks.
  • Support major infrastructure projects, migrations, and modernization initiatives involving IBM Power Systems.
  1. Additional Responsibilities (Good to Have)
  • Support disaster recovery planning, testing, and execution activities.
  • Assist with capacity planning and infrastructure forecasting.
  • Contribute to standards development, governance, and best practices for enterprise AIX environments.
  • Support audit requests and compliance reviews.
  • Participate in on-call support rotation and critical production outage response activities.
  • Experience with Dynatrace Monitoring software
