Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Power BI Developer to support enterprise business intelligence and analytics initiatives. The selected professional will design scalable data models, develop advanced analytics solutions, and build high-impact dashboards that support strategic decision-making across the organization.

While the intent may be long-term engagement, the initial contract period is through the end of the current fiscal year and may be extended based on project needs and budget approval.

Key Responsibilities

Semantic Modeling & Data Architecture

• Design, develop, and optimize Power BI semantic models using best-practice dimensional modeling techniques such as star schema, snowflake schema, dataflows, and shared datasets

• Build enterprise-grade datasets with relationships, hierarchies, calculation groups, and incremental refresh

• Collaborate with data engineering teams to define data requirements and improve data quality

• Implement data modeling standards that support self-service analytics and governed data access

Advanced DAX Programming

• Develop complex DAX measures, calculated columns, and tables to support KPIs and business analytics

• Optimize DAX calculations for performance and maintainability

• Troubleshoot calculation issues and ensure data accuracy across dashboards

• Implement Row-Level Security (RLS) and Object-Level Security (OLS) within semantic models

Visualization & Dashboard Development

• Develop intuitive and visually compelling Power BI dashboards and reports

• Apply data visualization best practices and storytelling techniques

• Create interactive features such as drill-throughs, bookmarks, custom visuals, and parameterized reports

• Ensure dashboards meet usability, accessibility, and design standards

SQL Development (Oracle & SQL Server)

• Write efficient SQL queries, stored procedures, and views to support BI data pipelines

• Perform data profiling, validation, and transformation

• Work with database administrators and data engineers to optimize query performance

Power BI Administration & Governance

• Manage Power BI Service components including workspaces, datasets, gateways, refresh schedules, and capacity utilization

• Support governance initiatives such as dataset certification, naming conventions, and documentation

• Monitor performance and troubleshoot refresh or gateway failures

• Assist with tenant-level administration including access control and licensing

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

• Work closely with business stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into BI solutions

• Provide guidance to self-service BI users

• Document data models, SQL logic, DAX calculations, and report specifications

• Participate in Agile or project-based development workflows

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or related field

• 5+ years of Power BI development experience

• Strong expertise in:

  • Semantic modeling (star schema, dataflows, composite models)

  • Advanced DAX programming

  • Power Query (M language)

  • Power BI Desktop and Power BI Service

• Solid SQL development experience in Oracle and SQL Server

• Experience with Power BI administration, including gateways, RLS/OLS, workspace governance, and capacity management

• Strong understanding of relational and dimensional data modeling

• Experience working with large, complex data sets in multi-system environments

• Ability to communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences

Preferred Skills

• Experience with Oracle BI development using OBIEE semantic model (RPD), reports, and dashboards

• Knowledge of enterprise data governance frameworks

• Experience supporting analytics in large enterprise environments
