Position Overview

We are looking for a Senior Design System Engineer / Senior UI Engineer with strong hands-on experience building and implementing enterprise design systems, reusable component libraries, and accessible Angular applications.

The strongest candidate will have experience taking a design system from initial setup through implementation, building reusable components, documenting components in Storybook, and applying WCAG 2.1/AAA and Section 508 requirements throughout front-end development.

This is a hands-on engineering role focused on design systems, accessibility, Angular component development, and front-end architecture.

Core Technical Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional Front-End Development
  • 5+ years of hands-on Angular development
  • 5+ years building or implementing Enterprise Design Systems
  • 5+ years developing Reusable UI Components / Component Libraries
  • 5+ years of hands-on Web Accessibility / WCAG
  • Strong experience with WCAG 2.1 / AAA
  • Strong knowledge of Section 508
  • Strong knowledge of ARIA
  • Strong knowledge of Semantic HTML
  • 5+ years of experience with Storybook
  • Strong HTML experience
  • Strong SASS / SCSS experience
  • Experience with USWDS (U.S. Web Design System) or comparable enterprise design systems
  • Experience performing accessibility testing, remediation, and accessibility reviews
  • Strong technical communication and ability to work directly with development teams

What You Will Do

  • Build and maintain an enterprise design system and reusable component library.
  • Establish design-system architecture, standards, patterns, and reusable components.
  • Develop high-level Angular wrapper components that provide consistent behavior and accessibility across applications.
  • Build accessible UI components using Angular, HTML, SASS/SCSS, semantic HTML, and ARIA.
  • Develop and document components using Storybook.
  • Create reusable UI patterns that can be adopted across multiple enterprise applications.
  • Apply WCAG 2.1/AAA and Section 508 requirements during component development.
  • Identify and remediate accessibility issues within front-end applications.
  • Perform accessibility and UI reviews of front-end implementations.
  • Work with development teams to implement consistent design-system and accessibility patterns.
  • Provide technical guidance to developers who may have limited accessibility or design-system experience.
  • Participate in code reviews and provide recommendations related to front-end architecture, accessibility, and reusable components.
  • Document component behavior, implementation guidance, accessibility requirements, and development workflows.
  • Review existing application UI patterns and identify opportunities for reusable component implementation.
  • Support accessibility remediation across multiple enterprise applications.
  • Research and evaluate design-system, accessibility, and front-end technologies as needed.

Required Experience

Enterprise Design Systems

Demonstrated experience building, establishing, or implementing an enterprise design system, including:

  • Reusable component libraries
  • Component architecture
  • Wrapper components
  • Design-system standards
  • Component documentation
  • Design-system adoption across development teams

Candidates who have only used an existing design system without helping build or implement it are not a strong fit.

Accessibility

Strong hands-on experience with:

  • WCAG 2.1
  • WCAG AAA
  • Section 508
  • ARIA
  • Semantic HTML
  • Keyboard accessibility
  • Accessible UI components
  • Accessibility testing
  • Accessibility remediation
  • Accessibility audits/reviews

Front-End Engineering

Strong experience with:

  • Angular
  • HTML5
  • SASS / SCSS
  • Reusable Angular components
  • Component libraries
  • Front-end architecture
  • UI component development

Storybook

Hands-on experience using Storybook for:

  • Component development
  • Component documentation
  • Component demonstrations
  • Collaboration with development teams
  • Maintaining reusable component libraries

Enterprise Design Systems

Experience with USWDS or another enterprise-level design system is required.

Preferred Experience

  • .NET
  • MVC
  • SQL
  • Experience integrating Angular applications with .NET-based back-end systems
  • Government or public-sector application development
  • Large enterprise application environments
  • Accessibility remediation across multiple applications

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is a Senior Design System Engineer, Senior UI Engineer, Senior Front-End Engineer, UX Engineer, or Front-End Architect who combines strong engineering skills with deep accessibility expertise.

The candidate should be able to demonstrate that they have:

Built the design system → developed the components → documented them in Storybook → applied WCAG/Section 508 → worked with developers to adopt the system.

This is significantly different from a candidate who has simply developed Angular applications or consumed an existing UI component library.
