Job Description
Required Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a related technical field
Preferred License/Certification:
Microsoft SQL Server Certification or other database administration certifications
Required Qualifications / Skills / Experience:
Minimum 4+ years of Database Administration experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2016 or later versions
Experience supporting enterprise database environments with high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) solutions
Experience supporting complex, mission-critical applications in a 24x7 production environment
Experience managing database backups, restores, and database recovery processes
Experience monitoring and maintaining database performance, space allocation, and system health
Experience implementing Transparent Data Encryption (TDE) within SQL Server environments
Experience installing and maintaining SQL Server patches, upgrades, and service packs
Experience working with database replication, clustering, and high availability environments
Experience with database monitoring tools, alert mechanisms, and troubleshooting database issues
Experience working with database scripting for creating and modifying database objects (tables, views, indexes, constraints)
Minimum 2+ years of experience creating, updating, and maintaining systems documentation
Ability to follow and enforce database standards, policies, and procedures
Ability to work within development, testing, and production database environments
Experience collaborating with system analysts, database architects, and technical teams
Preferred Qualifications / Skills / Experience:
Experience supporting large-scale enterprise applications within government or public sector environments.
Experience working with clustered database environments.
Experience performing capacity planning and database storage optimization.
Experience identifying performance bottlenecks and recommending database performance improvements.
Experience serving as a technical liaison between internal teams and external consultants.
Experience working within IT service management or enterprise development standards environments.
Job Duties:
Provide Infrastructure DBA support for multiple SQL Server applications across development, testing, and production environments
Support mission-critical Tier 1 applications, including systems supporting the Bureau of Labs, Cancer Registry, and other enterprise programs
Participate in 24x7 database support operations, ensuring availability and performance of database systems
Assist in developing and executing plans for database installation, patch management, upgrades, and maintenance
Monitor database space allocation and capacity requirements across environments
Perform database integrity checks and monitor results to ensure database stability
Install and maintain database management software in development and testing environments
Apply database patches and service packs according to maintenance schedules
Monitor and support clustered database environments and database replication systems
Manage database backup and recovery processes to ensure system recoverability
Monitor and troubleshoot database jobs, scheduled processes, and automated database tasks
Monitor database environments using alert logs, trace files, and monitoring tools to detect issues
Implement strategies to optimize database storage, repair fragmentation, and release unused space
Execute database scripts to create and modify database objects such as tables, indexes, and views
Troubleshoot database performance issues, connectivity problems, and system downtime
Maintain systems documentation related to database infrastructure and operational procedures
Collaborate with technical teams, architects, and analysts to resolve complex database issues
