Summary

About the Role

A leading automotive EV battery manufacturer is seeking an experienced Battery Manufacturing Engineer to support the planning, installation, validation, and launch of EV battery manufacturing equipment. This role combines project management with hands-on manufacturing engineering, with a strong emphasis on pre-production trials and production launch — taking a line from equipment installation through to a producible, validated product ready for mass production. The environment is a fast-paced, high-throughput automated operation where cycle times are measured in seconds per operation.

Please Read Before Applying

  • ~5 years of engineering/manufacturing experience with pre-production trial and launch
  • Experience taking a line from equipment install to producible, validated product
  • Fast-paced, high-throughput automated manufacturing — cycle times in seconds per operation
  • Electrode (coating/slot-die, roll-to-roll, calendaring, tab-cut/slitting) or module (high-speed assembly, laser welding) experience
  • 100% onsite in Liberty, NC; able to travel 15–25% and work ~50-hour weeks

Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute pre-production trials — take a line from install to producible product, validate quality/KPIs, and prepare for mass production
  • Lead procurement, validation, installation, commissioning, and launch of EV battery manufacturing equipment
  • Conduct product and process validation, vendor acceptance testing, and equipment commissioning
  • Create and maintain detailed project schedules and support budgetary control for assigned areas
  • Develop manufacturing process plans and equipment specifications using lean manufacturing principles
  • Verify installed equipment against applicable safety requirements and standards
  • Prepare explanatory documents, drawings, scope/execution plans, progress reports, and issue/option analyses
  • Apply electrical, mechanical, and civil engineering principles to equipment design and implementation
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams, contractors, suppliers, and equipment manufacturers
  • Support team-member training and address ergonomic and safety considerations
  • Identify production issues and implement corrective actions; support continuous improvement

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field, or equivalent experience
  • ~5 years of relevant engineering / manufacturing experience
  • Pre-production trial and launch experience
  • Production preparation & launch of battery, electronics, or chemical manufacturing equipment
  • Fast-paced, high-throughput automated manufacturing (seconds-per-operation cycle times)
  • Product/process validation, vendor acceptance testing, and equipment commissioning
  • Detailed scheduling and budgetary control; strong technical writing
  • Safety and standards verification for installed equipment
  • AutoCAD, CATIA, Creo, or similar CAD; intermediate Excel and PowerPoint
  • Willing to travel 15–25% (incl. international) and work ~25% overtime (~50-hour weeks)

Technical Skills

  • Electrode: mixing, coating (slot-die), roll-to-roll, calendaring/compression, tab-cut & slitting
  • Module/assembly: automated conveyance, high-speed assembly, laser welding
  • Equipment technology: laser cutting, vision inspection systems, automated assembly controls
  • CAD: AutoCAD, CATIA, or Creo
  • Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced engineering degree
  • Automotive or battery manufacturing experience
  • EV battery or automotive production engineering experience
  • PLCs, industrial controls, MES systems, and industrial networks
  • Capital project management — schedules, budgets, KPI reporting (3+ years)
