SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA) to support mission-critical data platforms across the enterprise. This role focuses on ensuring the reliability, performance, and security of SQL Server environments while enabling seamless data movement across applications and business systems. The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise, strong analytical skills, and a passion for building resilient, scalable database solutions in both on-premise and cloud environments.
Required Qualifications- 7+ years of hands-on SQL Server administration experience.
- Proficiency with SQL Server versions 2008 through 2025.
- Strong experience with SSRS, SSAS, and advanced T-SQL scripting.
- Cloud expertise with:
- Azure SQL Database
- SQL Managed Instance
- Azure Synapse Analytics
- Azure Data Factory
- SQL Server on Azure VM
- Experience with Power BI and Power Apps.
- Strong understanding of software architecture, requirements engineering, testing, and deployment.
- Ability to analyze how data flows across systems and applications.
Key ResponsibilitiesDatabase Architecture & Data Flow- Ensure efficient and secure movement of information across systems and applications.
- Understand how software interacts with the technical architecture to support accurate reporting and compliance.
- Participate in the design, creation, and maintenance of enterprise databases.
Database Administration & Optimization- Perform SQL Server and other DBMS administration, including installation, configuration, patching, and upgrades.
- Conduct performance analysis, tuning, indexing, and optimization of SQL Server environments.
- Adjust advanced SQL Server settings to maximize performance and reliability.
- Build and configure new SQL Server instances in on-premise environments, collaborating with Storage, Domain, and Systems teams.
Cloud & Modern Data Platforms- Administer and optimize Azure SQL Database, SQL Managed Instance, Synapse Analytics, and Data Factory pipelines.
- Support hybrid architectures involving SQL Server on Azure VMs.
- Integrate cloud data services with on-premise systems.
Security, Compliance & Documentation- Develop and enforce policies and procedures to ensure DBMS security, availability, and integrity.
- Create and update SSPs, CKLs, and accreditation documentation for classified or regulated environments.
- Maintain and govern the corporate data dictionary.
- Ensure compliance with Shell's data governance and reporting standards.
High Availability & Disaster Recovery- Implement and manage SQL Server HA/DR solutions (AlwaysOn, clustering, replication, log shipping).
- Verify and maintain enterprise-wide backup, storage, and replication strategies aligned with RTO/RPO requirements.
User Support & Collaboration- Work with management to develop database strategies aligned with organizational goals.
- Consult with users on database access, usage, and best practices.
- Resolve data conflicts, quality issues, and inappropriate data usage.
- Automate routine administrative tasks and maintain continuity documentation.
Lifecycle Management- Perform database and software lifecycle activities to ensure optimal performance, availability, and compliance.
- Create database structures, interfaces, and schemas to meet customer and business requirements.
