As a Mechanical Engineer at Lutron, you'll make an immediate impact designing smart lighting and shading products for Lutron, a global leader in connected home and building technology. From day one, you'll help shape concepts, build prototypes, and ensure our designs meet high standards for performance and reliability.

At Lutron, you are embarking on a long-term career path. You'll learn from experienced mentors, gain hands-on project ownership, and grow your skills across mechanical design, testing, and problem solving. You'll also collaborate with electrical, radio frequency, and manufacturing teams to refine designs and prepare products for high-volume production. You'll see your ideas move from sketch to prototype to real world use, gaining experience that accelerates your career.

If you're excited to solve real engineering challenges and see your ideas, come to life, Lutron is the place to start your journey. There are a variety of concepts throughout the product lifecycle that you could encounter from day one, such as:

  • Heat transfer, thermodynamics, and thermal management principles
  • Materials selection and materials science, particularly thermoplastics
  • Design and analysis for static and dynamic use cases
  • Design using best practices for high-volume manufacturability for stamped metal parts, injection molding, and die casting
  • Development of manufacturing equipment and assembly tooling, making use of technologies such as pneumatics, sensors, and vision systems.

Responsibilities

  • Design of mechanical parts, including stress analysis, worst-case design, tolerance analysis, and review
  • Development of theoretical models, simulations, and prototypes to test and validate design.
  • Frequent collaboration with radio frequency, electrical, and manufacturing engineers to refine mechanical design
  • Qualification for internal and external safety and standards
  • Design for high-volume manufacturing, testing, and assembly, including development of tooling and testers

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Engineering Science
  • Minimum, cumulative GPA of 3.00 for each degree earned
  • 0-3 years' experience in a related field
  • You are authorized to work in the U.S. and will not require Lutron to sponsor you for any work visa, such as an H-1B, either immediately or at any time in the future. Lutron does not offer work visa sponsorship for this position
  • Willingness and ability to work on-site 5 days per week
  • Willingness to travel 5-10% of the time for inter-office collaboration, site visits, etc.
