SQL Developer (Advanced SQL & Data Engineering)
Introduction
We are seeking senior-level SQL Developers with deep expertise in advanced SQL development and data engineering to support enterprise reporting, analytics, and operational data systems. This role focuses heavily on complex query development, performance tuning, data modeling, and data quality, ensuring scalable and high-performing database solutions across environments. The ideal candidate is highly hands-on, comfortable working with large-scale datasets, and capable of translating business and technical requirements into efficient SQL-based solutions.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain complex SQL queries, views, stored procedures, functions, and triggers
- Build and manage relational database schemas, including normalized and denormalized structures
- Implement fact/dimension-style or other analytical schemas as required
- Develop reusable SQL frameworks to support consistent data access
- Ensure SQL code follows established coding standards and best practices
- Analyze and optimize complex, long-running SQL queries
- Interpret and tune query execution plans
- Design and maintain indexes, partitioning strategies, and statistics
- Optimize database performance for large datasets and high-volume workloads
- Identify and resolve blocking, deadlocks, and resource contention
- Develop and support SQL-based ETL / ELT transformations
- Integrate data from multiple sources including relational databases, data warehouses, flat files, and external data feeds
- Support batch and near-real-time data processing
- Implement incremental loads, CDC logic, and data reconciliation
- Implement data validation, reconciliation, and integrity checks
- Enforce referential integrity and constraint management
- Support auditability, lineage, and traceability
- Provide production support for SQL-based systems and data pipelines
- Perform root-cause analysis for data and performance issues
- Support deployments across DEV / TEST / UAT / PROD
- Work closely with application teams, data engineers, and business stakeholders
- Translate requirements into efficient, scalable SQL solutions
- Participate in Agile ceremonies (backlog refinement, sprint planning, reviews)
Requirements
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of hands-on experience as a SQL Developer
- Expert-level proficiency in SQL, including complex joins and subqueries, window/analytic functions, Common Table Expressions (CTEs), stored procedures, and functions
- Strong understanding of relational database theory and design
- Proven experience with performance tuning and query optimization
- Experience working with very large datasets (millions to billions of records)
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with SQL Server, Azure SQL, PostgreSQL, or Oracle
- Solid understanding of data warehousing concepts
- Experience supporting ETL / ELT pipelines
- Knowledge of transaction management and isolation levels
- Familiarity with DevOps / CI-CD practices for database deployments
- Experience in public sector or large enterprise environments
Nice to Have
- Experience with Change Data Capture (CDC)
- Exposure to data governance and metadata management
- Experience designing high-availability and disaster-recovery database solutions
- Relevant database or cloud certifications
