Role Overview
This organization seeks an IT Infrastructure and Security Engineer for a hybrid role responsible for implementing and managing core technology infrastructure while ensuring protection against cyber threats. This position balances IT infrastructure operations and cybersecurity responsibilities, serving as a primary technical resource for server, virtualization, cloud, networking, and backup infrastructure. The role also involves managing the organization's security posture in partnership with managed service providers.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer and maintain Windows Server and Linux (SUSE Linux Enterprise Server) environments across on-premises and cloud infrastructure.
- Manage VMware vSphere/ESXi virtualization platforms, including provisioning, patching, performance monitoring, and capacity planning.
- Administer Active Directory environments, including user and group management, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and certificate services.
- Manage and optimize Microsoft Azure IaaS/PaaS resources, including virtual machines, networking, storage, and Entra ID (Azure AD) identity services.
- Administer Microsoft 365 tenant operations, including Exchange Online, Microsoft Intune, and Entra ID conditional access policies.
- Manage enterprise backup and disaster recovery solutions (e.g., Veeam), including DR testing and documentation.
- Implement and enforce security policies, including patch management, endpoint protection, and email security.
- Monitor, analyze, and remediate security alerts from MDR/SIEM platforms, escalating to managed SOC partners as needed.
- Conduct vulnerability assessments and coordinate remediation efforts across the infrastructure.
- Coordinate with managed network/firewall and MDR/SOC providers as the internal technical liaison.
Required Qualifications
Education: A bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, cybersecurity, engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, certifications, and experience.
Experience: 7+ years of relevant work experience in IT infrastructure, systems administration, or cybersecurity, with experience across both domains. Experience supporting multi-site environments is preferred.
Technical Skills:- Strong experience administering Windows Server (2016/2019/2022) and Linux (SUSE or RHEL preferred).
- Experience managing Active Directory, VMware vSphere/ESXi, and Microsoft 365/Azure environments.
- Knowledge of enterprise backup and disaster recovery solutions (e.g., Veeam, Zerto).
- Familiarity with security tools such as EDR/XDR, SIEM, and vulnerability scanners.
- Proficiency with PowerShell scripting for automation and administration.
- Understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, VLANs, VPNs, routing/switching).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in small-to-mid-size IT teams.
- Experience coordinating with managed service providers (MSPs) or managed security service providers (MSSPs).
- Familiarity with ITSM platforms (e.g., Freshservice, JIRA, ServiceNow).
- Exposure to SAP environments or enterprise ERP systems from an infrastructure support perspective.
- Experience in agricultural, cooperative, or manufacturing industry environments.
- Valued certifications include CompTIA Security+, VCP, VMCE, CISSP, SSCP, or CISM.
Work Environment
This is primarily an office-based position at a facility in Naperville, IL. This role requires participation in on-call responsibilities for infrastructure and security incident response. After-hours work may be required for scheduled maintenance, system upgrades, or incident response. Up to 20% travel is expected to facilities across the Midwest for projects, assessments, and installations.
