About the opportunity

Our client is a technology consulting and delivery firm serving major US health plans. They are hiring Engineering Managers to lead full stack teams building highly available, distributed claims systems on AWS. This is a hands-on leadership role: you will guide architecture and code quality, grow your engineers, and work directly with client stakeholders.

What you'll do

Lead one or more full stack engineering teams of Technical Leads and Engineers
Guide design and development of distributed claims services in Python and Go or Java on AWS and Kubernetes
Run technical design reviews and set coding and architecture standards
Drive automation across CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, testing and operations
Own delivery commitments, risks and escalations for your teams
Hire, mentor and develop engineers
Lead your team's adoption of AI-assisted development

What you'll bring

10+ years of software engineering, including 5+ years in engineering leadership
Expert-level Python plus Go or Java
Deep hands-on AWS experience, including containers on EKS / Kubernetes
Strong distributed systems fundamentals: fault tolerance, messaging (Kafka, SQS/SNS) and data partitioning
Infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, CloudFormation or Ansible) and CI/CD
Experience with hiring, performance management and team building
Clear communication with client and executive stakeholders
Daily use of AI development tools (Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor) and working knowledge of LLM patterns such as RAG, embeddings and MCP
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field

Nice to have

US health plan / payer experience: claims, enrollment, benefits, HIPAA
Red Hat OpenShift experience
Node.js
HL7, FHIR or X12 EDI
Consulting or professional services background
