Position Overview

• We are seeking an experienced Microsoft Purview Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support the configuration, implementation, and operationalization of Microsoft Purview following the successful completion of a Phase 1 pilot focused on data classification and labeling.
• Although the pilot demonstrated value, the team identified a need for deeper technical expertise in Microsoft Purview configuration, permissions, audit capabilities, reporting, information protection, and implementation best practices. Existing administrators can manage routine operational activities; however, the organization requires a hands-on SME who has previously implemented and configured Purview in real-world environments.
• The selected candidate will work closely with developers, administrators, security teams, compliance stakeholders, and data governance teams to translate pilot outcomes into a scalable, production-ready solution. This person will provide practical implementation guidance, troubleshoot configuration challenges, establish best practices, and help operationalize Purview capabilities across the enterprise.
• The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise with excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, Agile environment.

Required Qualifications

• Demonstrated, strong hands-on Microsoft Purview experience in real-world implementation, configuration, and operationalization.
• Proven experience configuring and troubleshooting Microsoft Purview capabilities beyond routine administration.
• Practical experience with data classification and sensitivity labeling.
• Experience with Microsoft Purview permissions, role assignments, and access management.
• Experience configuring or supporting relevant audit capabilities and understanding audit requirements.
• Experience with Purview reporting, operational visibility, and troubleshooting.
• Strong understanding of information protection concepts and associated Microsoft Purview capabilities.
• Experience translating business, security, compliance, and governance requirements into technical configurations.
• Experience working directly with developers and technical teams to resolve implementation challenges.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to explain technical concepts clearly, facilitate discussions, and document implementation decisions.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced Agile environment with changing priorities.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, problem-solving, and collaboration skills.

Key Deliverables

• The Microsoft Purview SME will be expected to deliver:
• Assessment of the current Purview pilot configuration and implementation gaps.
• Recommended roadmap for moving from pilot to production.
