Software Engineer - Test and Validation

As a Software Test Engineer, you will support the testing and validation of advanced software and electronic systems used in agricultural equipment. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys hands-on work, troubleshooting complex systems, and working directly on machines in real-world operating environments.

Job Responsibilities

  • Execute field validation and testing activities for agricultural equipment software and electronic control systems.
  • Operate and evaluate equipment in real-world agricultural environments.
  • Troubleshoot software, hardware, electrical, and basic mechanical issues encountered during testing activities.
  • Collect, analyze, and document test data to identify defects, performance issues, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Work closely with software developers, systems engineers, and test teams to reproduce, diagnose, and resolve issues.
  • Develop and execute test plans, test procedures, and validation reports.
  • Verify software functionality against system and software requirements.
  • Utilize engineering tools and scripting languages to automate testing and analyze data.
  • Support prototype machine builds, software installations, and system configuration activities.
  • Document test results, observations, and recommendations in a clear and professional manner.
  • Travel to customer sites, proving grounds, farms, and test locations as required.
  • Maintain a strong focus on safety while working with agricultural machinery and test equipment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or another STEM-related engineering discipline.
  • Experience with or academic exposure to Python and/or C++ programming.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex systems involving software, electronics, sensors, controls, and mechanical components.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated, quick learner, and capable of working independently in the field.
  • Good organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel as required.

Desired Experience

  • Experience with software testing, validation, or systems integration.
  • Familiarity with embedded systems and electronic control units (ECUs).
  • Experience with agricultural, off-highway, construction, or industrial equipment.
  • Understanding of CAN communication networks and J1939 protocols.
  • Experience using data logging, diagnostic, or troubleshooting tools.
  • Knowledge of Git, GitHub, or other version control systems.
  • Experience creating automated test scripts using Python.
  • Familiarity with software development and Agile engineering processes.

Pay Range: $65,000-$90,000 - Commensurate with experience
