Summary

Standex International is a global industrial growth company operating through our market-leading brands in electronics, cutting-edge forming technologies, engraving, and scientific refrigeration. We work with our customers to advance progress through innovation. From inventing and producing parts for next-generation space vehicles to evolving vaccine refrigeration, designing functional textures for everyday products, improving renewable energy technology, and much more, we are focused on making what's next possible.

The Electro-Mechanical Design Engineer will provide engineering support for existing commercial refrigerated merchandisers and display cases by troubleshooting issues, implementing product improvements, and ensuring long-term reliability across mechanical and electrical systems.

What You'll Do

Product Support & Troubleshooting
  • Diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical issues in production and fielded units. Investigate failures, perform root-cause analysis (RCA), and recommend corrective actions.

Component Lifecycle Management
  • Lead Engineering Change Notices (ECNs/ECOs) to update drawings, BOMs, and documentation.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to communicate and implement design changes that improve quality, cost, reliability, or manufacturability.
  • Manage component obsolescence by qualifying replacement parts, validating alternates, and ensuring functional compatibility with suppliers.

Build, Test, & Verification
  • Develop test plans and verification methods for redesigns or component updates.
  • Validate that changes maintain or improve product performance, reliability, and compliance with applicable standards.

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
  • Identify opportunities for cost reduction, component standardization, and design simplification.
  • Improve manufacturability (DFM) and serviceability (DFS) for existing product lines.
  • Support ongoing process improvement within the engineering team.
  • Provide rapid engineering support for manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and field service teams, including production line issue resolution.

Documentation Control
  • Maintain accurate engineering data, including CAD models, drawings, wiring diagrams, and product configurations.
  • Ensure design intent is accurately captured and maintained within CAD, PLM, and ERP systems.

Reliability, Safety & Compliance
  • Perform FMEA, stress analysis, thermal reviews, tolerance analysis, or other engineering evaluations as needed.
  • Verify that products remain compliant with relevant industry standards and regulatory requirements.

What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Electro-Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline;
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience working with electro-mechanical systems design or support.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD; able to read, interpret, create, and revise mechanical drawings and electrical wiring diagrams.
  • Strong organizational skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with solid mechanical and electrical engineering fundamentals.
  • Experience with Siemens Solid Edge.
  • Demonstrated success managing engineering projects from initiation through implementation.
  • Familiarity with Lean or Six Sigma problem-solving methodologies.
  • Knowledge of industry standards for open-air refrigeration systems.
  • Basic understanding of refrigeration system operation.

What We Value

  • Ability to read and interpret documents.
  • Ability to write reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers and employees of the organization.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Need to have good analytical skills. Need to be able to organize data into a summary form to justify courses of action, build baseline measures, and track improvements. Need to have excellent problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work productively with all employees in the plant and with the Engineering Department.
  • Ability to be comfortable spending significant time in a manufacturing and office environment.
