Overview

This is a remote role that may only be hired in the following location(s): Arizona, Colorado, North Carolina or Texas.

We are seeking a Technical Manager to lead our Container Platforms Engineering and Operations team. This role combines technical leadership with people management responsibilities, overseeing a team of 10+ professionals (both FTEs and contractors). The ideal candidate will drive technical strategy, roadmap development, and execution for our container platforms, ensuring reliability and scalability for critical applications on prim today, and cloud tomorrow (AWS/Azure).

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities (70% Technical Strategy, 30% People Leadership)

Strategy & Architecture
Define and drive the technical vision and roadmap for container platforms (1-2 years horizon).
Architect solutions for OpenShift deployments on bare metal and on-prem environments.
Lead modernization initiatives, including Rancher migration and future platform enhancements.

Platform Engineering & Operations
Oversee design, build, and operations of OpenShift clusters, ensuring high availability and performance.
Implement automation frameworks for provisioning, scaling, and patching.
Drive observability, monitoring, and incident response for mission-critical workloads.
Cloud Integration Readiness; enabling hybrid and multi-cloud strategies.

Project Governance & Compliance
Provides direction and oversight to IT projects
Collaborate with cloud engineering teams to integrate networking, security, and governance.
Maintain adherence to regulatory requirements
Implement best practices for security, monitoring, and operational excellence.

People Management (30%)
Manage and mentor a team of engineers and contractors.
Foster collaboration and build strong stakeholder relationships.
Drive initiatives independently and ensure alignment with organizational goals

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree and 6 years of experience in Applications development, applications analysis or systems engineering OR High School Diploma or GED and 10 years of experience in Applications development, applications analysis or systems engineering

Skill(s): Previous leadership for technical implementation, Knowledge of Standard Development Life Cycles (like Waterfall or Agile), Knowledge of system and data design

The base pay for this position is generally between $130,000 and $170,000. Actual starting base pay will be determined based on skills, experience, location, and other non-discriminatory factors permitted by law. For some roles, total compensation may also include variable incentives, bonuses, benefits, and/or other awards as outlined in the offer of employment.
