The Cloud Engineer collaborates closely with Agile development teams, supports customer mission needs, and ensures alignment with enterprise best practices, governance requirements, and platform standards. This role is essential to ensuring reliability, scalability, and continuous improvement of cloud capabilities across the enterprise.

Key Responsibilities:

Role-Level Competency
  • Serve as a technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) in cloud-native software engineering, cloud platform engineering, DevOps automation, and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC).

Software Engineering
  • Design, develop, and deploy modular cloud-based systems and services.
  • Develop software using languages such as Python, Java, C++, or Ruby to support application functionality, automation, and integration.
  • Apply strong programming and software engineering practices to ensure accurate interpretation, implementation, testing, and maintainability of code.

Platform Engineering (AWS + IaC)
  • Build and maintain cloud solutions using AWS services including S3, RDS, EC2, ECS, Lambda, SQS, SNS, and CloudFormation.
  • Implement and maintain Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) using CloudFormation and related automation frameworks to provision, configure, and manage cloud resources.

DevOps & Automation
  • Utilize DevOps tools such as GitHub and Jenkins to implement continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines.
  • Containerize and automate workloads using Docker and configuration-management tools such as Ansible.
  • Apply open-source technologies, software development principles, and system engineering practices to support cloud solution design and implementation.

Cloud Operations
  • Identify, analyze, and resolve cloud infrastructure vulnerabilities, performance issues, and application deployment failures.
  • Regularly review existing systems and recommend improvements for scalability, reliability, security, and cost efficiency.
  • Develop and maintain cloud solutions in alignment with customer best practices, architectural guidance, and governance standards.

Team Collaboration & Customer Engagement
  • Collaborate with Agile Scrum teams to deliver iterative, high-quality cloud capabilities.
  • Interact with customers to provide cloud support, gather requirements, and recommend technical solutions based on mission needs.

API & Integration
  • Design, integrate, and maintain web services and RESTful APIs to support application interoperability and data exchange.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Proven experience designing, developing, and deploying cloud-native applications and services.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, C++, or Ruby.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS services including S3, RDS, EC2, ECS, Lambda, SQS, SNS, and CloudFormation.
  • Practical experience implementing Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) using CloudFormation or similar automation frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines, version control, and automated build/deployment workflows.
  • Experience with containerization and automation tools such as Docker and Ansible.
  • Solid understanding of RESTful API design, integration patterns, and web-service architectures.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot cloud infrastructure, application deployments, and performance issues.
  • Experience working within Agile Scrum teams and contributing to iterative delivery cycles.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Desired Qualifications
