Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced SQL Database Administrator (SQL DBA) to manage, maintain, optimize, and secure Microsoft SQL Server environments. The ideal candidate will have expertise in database administration, performance tuning, backup and recovery, high availability, disaster recovery, security, and automation. This role involves ensuring the reliability, scalability, and availability of mission-critical database systems while collaborating with development and infrastructure teams.
Key Responsibilities:
Install, configure, upgrade, and administer Microsoft SQL Server environments.
Monitor database health, availability, and performance.
Perform database performance tuning, query optimization, and index management.
Implement and maintain backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies.
Configure and support High Availability solutions including Always On Availability Groups, Failover Clustering, Log Shipping, Database Mirroring, and Replication.
Troubleshoot database issues, blocking, deadlocks, and performance bottlenecks.
Manage database security, user access, permissions, encryption, and compliance.
Automate routine database administration tasks using T-SQL and PowerShell.
Support database migrations, upgrades, and patch management.
Monitor SQL Server using tools such as SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS), SQL Profiler, Extended Events, and SQL Server Agent.
Collaborate with application development teams to optimize database design and SQL queries.
Maintain documentation for database configurations, procedures, and operational standards.
Participate in on-call support for production database environments.
Required Skills:
Strong experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2016/2019/2022.
Expertise in T-SQL, stored procedures, triggers, functions, and views.
Experience with Performance Tuning and Query Optimization.
Hands-on experience with Backup, Restore, Recovery Models, and Disaster Recovery.
Knowledge of Always On Availability Groups, Failover Clustering, Replication, Log Shipping, and Database Mirroring.
Experience with SQL Server Agent, SSMS, SQL Profiler, Extended Events, and Database Maintenance Plans.
Knowledge of database security, permissions, auditing, and encryption.
Experience with PowerShell scripting and SQL automation.
Familiarity with Windows Server administration.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Skills:
Experience with Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, or SQL Server on Azure Virtual Machines.
Knowledge of AWS RDS for SQL Server or other cloud database platforms.
Experience with SSIS, SSRS, and SSDT.
Familiarity with Azure DevOps, Git, CI/CD, and Infrastructure as Code.
Understanding of database monitoring tools such as Redgate SQL Monitor, SolarWinds DPA, or SentryOne.
Qualifications
Bachelor''s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
4–10+ years of experience as a Microsoft SQL Server DBA.
Microsoft SQL Server or Azure Database certifications are preferred.
