Interim Director of AccountingHybrid onsite: Greensboro, NC
Hourly pay rate: $70-80/hr.
As Interim Director of Accounting, you will serve as the senior leader responsible for overseeing the organization’s accounting function, financial reporting, and close processes. This role requires deep technical accounting expertise, strong people leadership, and the ability to stabilize, scale, and improve accounting operations during a period of transition.
Key Responsibilities:- Lead and oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, financial reporting, and month end/quarter end close
- Ensure accurate, timely preparation of financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP
- Establish, strengthen, and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
- Review complex accounting transactions, estimates, and judgments; provide technical accounting guidance to the team
- Partner with executive leadership, finance, and operations to deliver financial insight and support business decisions
- Analyze financial results and investigate significant trends, risks, and variances; communicate findings and recommendations to leadership
- Oversee AP, AR, payroll, tax, cost, and inventory accounting functions, ensuring consistency and compliance
- Drive process improvements, accounting cleanup, and system optimization as needed
- Support external audit activities, including coordinating with auditors and addressing audit findings
- Lead, mentor, and develop accounting managers and staff; establish clear expectations and accountability
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and preparation of budget to actual variance analyses
- Manage special projects such as ERP implementations, integration activity, or control remediation initiatives
Qualifications: - BS in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
- 8+ years of experience in accounting leadership roles
- Proficient with financial systems and ERP platforms
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
