The Enterprise Application Manager is a hands-on technical leader responsible for overseeing the organizations core business applications, databases, and integration ecosystem. This role blends management responsibilities with deep technical expertise ideal for someone who can lead a small team while also rolling up their sleeves to perform system analysis, database administration, application support, and solution design.

The Enterprise Application Manager ensures the reliability, performance, and scalability of enterprise systems while partnering with business stakeholders to deliver technology solutions that support organizational goals.

Responsibilities

Leadership & Management
  • Lead and develop a small team of analysts and application support staff.
  • Prioritize and manage workload across the team, ensuring timely delivery of enhancements, fixes, and projects.
  • Serve as the escalation point for complex application or database issues.
  • Collaborate with business leaders to understand needs, define requirements, and translate them into technical solutions.
  • Establish and enforce best practices, documentation standards, and operational procedures.

Application Management
  • Manage lifecycle of enterprise applications, including ERP, CRM, HRIS, financial systems, and custom business applications.
  • Oversee application upgrades, patching, configuration, and vendor coordination.
  • Ensure application availability, performance, and security across the environment.
  • Evaluate new technologies and recommend improvements or replacements for legacy systems.
  • Maintain application roadmaps and recommend modernization or replacement of legacy platforms.

System Analysis & Solution Delivery
  • Gather and document business requirements, workflows, and functional specifications.
  • Design and implement application enhancements, integrations, and automation solutions.
  • Perform rootcause analysis for system issues and drive long-term remediation.
  • Develop and maintain system documentation, diagrams, and knowledge base articles.
  • Support change management processes, including testing, validation, and user training.

Database Administration (DBA)
  • Administer SQL Server, Oracle, or equivalent.
  • Perform database backups, restores, migrations, and performance tuning.
  • Monitor database health, capacity, and security.
  • Develop and optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, and data models.
  • Ensure compliance with data governance, retention, and audit requirements.

Integration & Data Management
  • Manage integration between enterprise applications, cloud services, and on-prem systems.
  • Support ETL processes, APIs, and middleware platforms.
  • Oversee data quality, data mapping, and data flow documentation.
  • Ensure secure and reliable data exchange across the organization.

Operational Support
  • Provide Tier 3 support for complex application and database issues.
  • Monitor system performance and proactively address potential problems.
  • Participate in on-call rotation as needed.
  • Coordinate with infrastructure, security, and networking teams to ensure cohesive system operations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree OR
  • Associate's degree with 2+ years of relevant experience
  • 4+ years of relevant experience.
  • Secret clearance required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Deep understanding of enterprise application ecosystems (ERP, CRM, HRIS, financial systems, custom business apps).
  • Strong knowledge of database platforms such as SQL Server, Oracle, or equivalent relational database systems.
  • Solid understanding of system analysis methodologies, business process mapping, and requirements gathering.
  • Knowledge of application integration patterns, APIs, ETL processes, and middleware technologies.
  • Familiarity with IT infrastructure components, including servers, networking, storage, and cloud platforms (Azure/AWS).
  • Understanding of IT security principles, identity management, and data governance best practices.
  • Knowledge of software development lifecycles (SDLC), DevOps concepts, and change management frameworks (e.g., ITIL).
  • Awareness of vendor management practices, licensing models, and support contract structures.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose complex application and database issues.
  • Hands-on technical skills in SQL development, performance tuning, backup/restore operations, and database administration.
  • Proficiency in configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting enterprise applications and their supporting components.
  • Ability to design and implement integrations, data flows, and automation solutions.
  • Skilled in documenting systems, workflows, configurations, and technical procedures.
  • Effective communication skills for translating technical concepts into business-friendly language.
  • Project management skills, including planning, prioritization, and coordination across teams.
  • Ability to mentor, guide, and develop technical staff while maintaining a collaborative team environment.
  • Strong vendor-facing skills for coordinating support, escalations, and product evaluations.
  • Ability to lead a technical team while remaining hands-on with daily operational and project work.
  • Ability to manage multiple applications and systems simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to balance strategic planning with tactical execution and operational support.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with business stakeholders to understand needs and deliver effective solutions.
  • Ability to troubleshoot end-to-end issues across applications, databases, integrations, and infrastructure layers.
  • Ability to adapt to evolving technologies and drive continuous improvement within the application landscape.
  • Ability to maintain high standards of quality, reliability, and security across enterprise systems.
  • Ability to make informed decisions, set priorities, and manage competing demands with minimal supervision.
