Role Summary
We are seeking an experienced Senior Scrum Master with strong Project Management expertise to lead Agile delivery across multiple technology initiatives.
The role primarily focuses on facilitating Agile execution, improving team effectiveness, removing impediments, promoting continuous improvement, and ensuring predictable delivery outcomes. In addition, the candidate will provide project management oversight covering planning, scheduling, risk management, governance, reporting, and stakeholder communication.
The ideal candidate will act as a servant leader for Agile teams while collaborating closely with Product Owners, business stakeholders, architects, engineering teams, QA, security, and operations teams to ensure successful project execution.
This is a hands-on delivery leadership position that requires a combination of strong Scrum facilitation, Agile coaching, project planning, dependency management, and stakeholder management skills.
Key Responsibilities
1. Scrum Leadership and Agile Delivery
Serve as Scrum Master for one or more Agile teams.
Facilitate Scrum ceremonies, including Sprint Planning, Daily Stand-ups, Sprint Reviews, Retrospectives, and Backlog Refinement.
Coach teams on Agile, Scrum, Kanban, and Lean principles.
Promote team accountability, collaboration, self-organization, and continuous improvement.
Identify and remove impediments affecting team productivity and delivery commitments.
Protect teams from unnecessary disruptions and uncontrolled scope changes.
Support Product Owners with backlog management, prioritization, and ensuring user stories are ready for development.
Facilitate estimation sessions, sprint planning, and sprint goal definition.
Monitor team health, sprint velocity, capacity, burndown trends, and delivery predictability.
2. Agile Metrics and Performance Reporting
Track and communicate Agile delivery metrics to relevant stakeholders.
Monitor sprint velocity, capacity utilization, cycle time, lead time, and defect trends.
Analyze delivery performance and identify opportunities to improve team productivity.
Develop dashboards and reports to provide visibility into sprint progress and delivery outcomes.
Use data-driven insights to support decision-making and continuous improvement initiatives.
3. Dependency and Release Management
Identify, track, and manage dependencies across multiple Agile teams and workstreams.
Coordinate release planning and deployment activities.
Facilitate collaboration among Product, Engineering, QA, Security, and Operations teams.
Ensure alignment between team deliverables, release schedules, and business priorities.
Proactively address cross-team blockers and communicate delivery risks.
Support release readiness assessments and ensure appropriate coordination before deployment.
4. Agile Coaching and Process Improvement
Mentor Scrum teams, Product Owners, and stakeholders on Agile principles and best practices.
Promote servant leadership and encourage teams to become self-organizing and accountable.
Assess Agile maturity and implement initiatives to improve delivery effectiveness.
Facilitate retrospectives and ensure improvement actions are tracked and implemented.
Encourage consistent adoption of Agile standards and practices across teams.
5. Project Management and Governance
Develop and maintain project plans, timelines, milestones, schedules, and deliverables.
Track project progress against approved plans and delivery commitments.
Ensure project objectives remain aligned with business goals.
Prepare regular project status reports and support portfolio or program-level reporting.
Maintain project documentation and facilitate governance meetings and leadership reviews.
Support resource planning, capacity forecasting, and roadmap planning.
Monitor effort utilization and support budgeting and project forecasting activities where applicable.
6. Risk, Issue, and Dependency Management
Create and maintain RAID logs covering Risks, Assumptions, Issues, and Dependencies.
Identify potential project risks and develop appropriate mitigation plans.
Track issues and blockers through resolution.
Escalate critical risks, delays, and delivery challenges to the appropriate stakeholders.
Facilitate risk review meetings and ensure timely follow-up on action items.
Evaluate the impact of changes to project scope, timelines, resources, and delivery commitments.
7. Stakeholder Management and Communication
Partner with business leaders, Product Owners, technical teams, and other stakeholders.
Communicate project progress, risks, dependencies, delivery forecasts, and potential impacts.
Manage stakeholder expectations and facilitate informed decision-making.
Provide executive-level updates and support steering committee meetings.
Coordinate communication across distributed and global teams.
Balance Agile team needs with business priorities and project delivery commitments.
Required Qualifications
14+ years of overall IT experience.
Minimum 5 years of experience as a Scrum Master leading Agile teams.
Minimum 3 years of Project Management experience supporting technology delivery initiatives.
Proven experience managing multiple Agile teams simultaneously.
Strong understanding of Scrum, Kanban, SAFe, and Agile delivery frameworks.
Hands-on experience facilitating Agile ceremonies and coaching teams.
Experience managing cross-team dependencies, release planning, and delivery coordination.
Strong knowledge of project planning, risk management, issue tracking, and governance reporting.
Experience preparing project status reports, delivery dashboards, and executive updates.
Strong stakeholder management, analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Ability to influence teams and stakeholders without direct reporting authority.
Experience working with geographically distributed or global teams.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in digital transformation, cloud, data, analytics, or cybersecurity programs.
Experience supporting enterprise-scale Agile initiatives.
Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
Experience with Jira, Confluence, Azure DevOps, and Agile reporting tools.
Relevant certifications such as PMP, Certified ScrumMaster (CSM), Professional Scrum Master (PSM), SAFe Scrum Master, SAFe Agilist, or equivalent.
Experience working in regulated industries such as banking, insurance, healthcare, or financial services.
