Position Overview

The Intersect Group is seeking a Director, Property Tax for a high-impact leadership opportunity with a nationally recognized real estate organization. This role will oversee the property tax function across a large and geographically diverse portfolio, ensuring accurate tax reporting, budgeting, forecasting, compliance, and payment activities while driving strategic initiatives that optimize performance and reduce risk.

As a key leader within the Finance organization, the Director, Property Tax will partner closely with Accounting, FP&A, Operations, Asset Management, Technology, and Executive Leadership to develop long-term property tax strategies, manage third-party vendor relationships, and enhance processes through data, analytics, and technology solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a team of Property Tax professionals, consultants, and supporting analytical resources.
  • Oversee all property tax activities across a multi-state real estate portfolio, including compliance, payments, appeals, accruals, and reporting.
  • Direct annual budgeting, forecasting, and reforecasting processes related to property tax expenses.
  • Partner with Cash Management to provide accurate property tax payment forecasting and cash planning.
  • Review and approve property tax payments while ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely execution.
  • Manage relationships and contracts with third-party vendors supporting property tax compliance, appeals, and payment processing.
  • Develop and execute a long-term property tax strategy, including process improvements, reporting enhancements, and technology initiatives.
  • Lead property tax appeals efforts and maintain productive relationships with state and local taxing authorities.

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor''s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum 5+ years of real estate industry experience with significant exposure to property tax management.
  • Strong understanding of multi-state property tax regulations, assessment cycles, compliance requirements, and appeals processes.
  • Experience managing large-scale property tax budgets, accruals, forecasting, and financial analysis.
  • Proficiency with Yardi; experience with reporting and analytics tools such as Tableau, SSRS, Anaplan, or similar platforms is highly desirable.
  • Proven success leading cross-functional initiatives, implementing process improvements, and managing third-party vendor relationships.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Exceptional communication and leadership abilities, with the confidence to partner effectively with senior executives and diverse stakeholder groups.
