Job Overview

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer for a 12-month contract opportunity supporting the next-generation Children Discovery App (CDA) for Disney Cruise Line.
CDA is a location-aware operational platform used by cast members and youth programs across multiple cruise ships, resorts, and island locations. The platform supports guest registration, check-in, guests-in-care workflows, messaging, reporting, real-time room/occupant visibility, and integrations with enterprise reservation and charging systems.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience with Angular, TypeScript, Node.js, REST APIs, SQL, and enterprise application development, with the ability to work across a multi-repository environment. Experience with Java/Spring Boot, WebSockets/STOMP, Redis, Docker, OAuth2/OIDC, and Kubernetes/cloud deployments is highly desirable.

The CDA replacement program is modernizing a legacy application into a modular, cloud-ready technology stack:
UI: Angular, TypeScript, Express, Capacitor, lazy-loaded feature modules, i18n, Jest

Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, test, and deploy end-to-end features across the Angular UI, Node.js APIs, and Java/Spring services.
Build and maintain modern Angular + TypeScript applications using routing, HTTP interceptors, reactive forms, lazy loading, and automated testing.
Develop secure Node.js REST APIs using TypeScript, authentication/authorization middleware, and OpenAPI/Swagger.
Implement configuration-driven, location-aware functionality that supports multiple cruise ships, resorts, and island destinations without hard-coded business logic.
Integrate real-time room and occupant state using WebSocket/STOMP technologies.
Implement reconnect, subscription replay, and consistent UI state across multi-instance/multi-pod deployments.
Work with enterprise authentication and authorization using OAuth2/OIDC, JWT, MyID/Keycloak, and role/claims-based access control.
Design and maintain relational data models and SQL queries using MariaDB/MySQL or equivalent databases.
Support Java/Spring services, JPA entities, Flyway migrations, and persistence-related development when work spans multiple application layers.
Collaborate on Docker images, health checks, environment configuration, and CI/CD pipelines.
Troubleshoot and resolve CI/CD, deployment, integration, and production issues.
Write unit and integration tests and maintain required code coverage and quality gates.
Participate in code reviews and provide clear PR descriptions, Jira mapping, technical documentation, and test plans.
Mentor and support mid-level engineers and help maintain engineering standards and architecture conventions.
Use approved AI-assisted development tools where permitted while maintaining security, privacy, testing, and code-quality standards.

Required Qualifications

8+ years of professional software development experience.
5+ years in senior or lead individual contributor roles working on production web applications.
Strong hands-on experience with Angular and TypeScript.
Experience with modern Angular architecture, routing, HTTP interceptors, reactive forms, lazy-loaded modules, and Jest or similar testing frameworks.
Strong production experience building Node.js REST APIs, preferably using TypeScript.
Strong understanding of REST API design, authentication middleware, tokens/cookies, and API security.
Strong SQL and relational database experience with MariaDB, MySQL, or equivalent.
Experience with OAuth2/OIDC, JWT validation, enterprise SSO, and RBAC.
Experience with Docker and cloud-style deployments such as Kubernetes, ECS, or similar platforms.
Strong Git, branching, code review, and multi-repository development experience.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
