Role: Senior ServiceNow Developer
Senior ServiceNow developer with 8+ years of hands-on platform experience spanning full-stack
development, platform administration, and on-premise instance management.
Deep expertise across the core development stack — Business Rules, Script Includes, Client Scripts, UI
Policies, UI Actions, and GlideAjax patterns — with a strong focus
on writing clean, performant server-side code that scales. Experienced building rich end-user experiences
on both the classic Service Portal (AngularJS widget
development, SCSS theming, portal page composition, and spUtil/$http patterns) and the Next Experience
UI Builder framework (composing pages with Data Resources, Client
State Parameters, configuring component event mappings, and wiring scripted REST or scripted data
sources into declarative page logic). Familiar with ServiceNow''s
execution environment internals: understanding scope boundaries, GlideRecord query optimization,
dot-walking pitfalls, and the implications of synchronous vs.
asynchronous execution on the client. Actively expanding into on-premise infrastructure responsibilities—
including MID Server configuration, instance upgrade planning,
node management, and platform health monitoring — to take fuller ownership of the ServiceNow stack
beyond application development.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Design and implement end-to-end ServiceNow solutions across Catalog, ITSM, and custom application
scopes, from data model design through Business Rule logic, flow
orchestration, and UI layer.
- Author and maintain server-side components — Business Rules with precise operation/condition
targeting to avoid unnecessary execution, Script Includes structured for
testability and reuse, Scheduled Jobs with safe GlideRecord patterns, and Transform Map scripts for data
integrity during imports.
- Build Service Catalog items using Record Producers, Variable Sets, and catalog scripting; enforce
consistent UX patterns and client-side performance by keeping Client
Scripts lean and favoring GlideAjax over synchronous server calls.
- Develop and maintain Service Portal widgets with custom AngularJS controllers, client scripts, and
SCSS; build Next Experience pages in UI Builder using Data
Resources, Client State Parameters, and event-driven component wiring.
- Lead feature delivery end to end: requirements analysis, technical design, iterative development, peer
code review, ATF test authoring, and production deployment.
- Partner with QA to triage defects at the platform level — reproducing issues in sub-production, isolating
root causes in server logs or browser network traces, and
delivering targeted fixes without scope creep.
- Contribute to on-premise instance operations: MID Server health checks, upgrade readiness
assessments, plugin activation coordination, and monitoring instance
performance metrics (transaction logs, slow query analysis, memory/CPU baselines).
- Surface technical risks early — scope conflicts, upgrade compatibility concerns, cross-scope API
limitations, or performance regressions — with concrete mitigation
options for Apple leads.
- Produce deployment runbooks that include pre/post-deployment validation steps, rollback procedures,
and update set sequencing to ensure zero-defect releases.
- Document functionality at the code level (inline where non-obvious) and in project tooling with enoug
technical detail that another senior developer can take
ownership without ramp-up.
