Position Overview

Are you an HVAC engineer ready to transcend the standard "box on an org chart" and take command of high-stakes engineering challenges in the heart of Manhattan? We are seeking a Mechanical HVAC Systems Design Engineer to join our elite New York City team. In this role, you will be a primary driver of technical excellence, transforming complex building constraints into high-performance mechanical solutions for some of the world's most demanding corporate and mission-critical environments.

Joining our team means contributing to a firm that designs over 20 million square feet of office space annually, offering you a platform of immense scale and professional significance. You will work within a sophisticated, multidisciplinary environment where Revit/BIM integration is the standard, not the exception. Here, your mastery of airside and waterside systems will directly impact the infrastructure of global leaders in finance, technology, and media, all while building a career legacy within a firm that prizes speed, quality, and real-world constructability.

Core Responsibilities
  • Mechanical Systems Architecture: Design and engineer sophisticated HVAC, ventilation, and hydronic systems for high-end corporate interiors and complex building modernizations.
  • Technical Design Leadership: Develop comprehensive mechanical plans, schematics, and equipment layouts while performing rigorous heating/cooling load calculations and equipment selections.
  • High-Fidelity BIM Modeling: Architect and maintain Revit models, ensuring precision in routing, spatial planning, and mechanical room coordination within a BIM-centric workflow.
  • Project Lifecycle Stewardship: Manage the full design lifecycle from initial site investigations and due diligence reports to construction administration, submittal reviews, and final punchlists.
  • Integrated Coordination: Lead cross-discipline coordination with architectural, structural, and MEP partners to ensure mechanical systems are seamlessly integrated into the building fabric.
  • System Documentation: Author high-level system narratives, basis-of-design documentation, and technical specifications that align with rigorous NYC building codes and client requirements.
  • Field Engineering: Conduct detailed site surveys to verify existing conditions and provide technical oversight during the construction phase to ensure design intent is realized.

Required Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • Experience: 5-15 years of professional experience in mechanical HVAC engineering design for commercial building systems.
  • Software Proficiency: Expert command of Revit/BIM for the independent production and coordination of complex mechanical models.
  • Technical Acumen: Deep knowledge of air distribution, hydronic heating/cooling, chilled water systems, and VRF/DX technologies.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Strong understanding of mechanical code fundamentals and design compliance within high-density urban environments.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Licensure: Active Professional Engineer (PE) license or on a clear EIT/PE track.
  • NYC Expertise: Proven track record navigating New York City project constraints and building infrastructure repositioning.
  • Sector Depth: Specialized experience in mission-critical facilities, data centers, or high-end corporate headquarters.
  • Sustainability: Exposure to sustainability-driven design strategies and energy-conscious system optimization.
