Product Owner

Description

We are looking for a Product Owner to lead the direction and delivery of data and analytics products for a growing organization in the Energy/Natural Resources sector. This Long-term Contract position is based in Houston, Texas, and is ideal for someone who can translate business needs into a clear product strategy while partnering closely with technical and business teams. The role requires a strong mix of product ownership, stakeholder communication, and hands-on backlog leadership to support high-value reporting and BI solutions.

Responsibilities:
Shape and maintain product roadmaps for data, business intelligence, and analytics offerings, ensuring priorities reflect business goals and future opportunities.
Own the product backlog by refining work items, organizing priorities, and preparing user stories for upcoming sprint cycles.
Engage business stakeholders and end users to capture reporting needs, document functional requirements, and clarify expected outcomes.
Establish success measures and key performance indicators with users to guide product decisions and evaluate delivered value.
Coordinate delivery activities through Azure DevOps, supporting sprint planning, progress tracking, and timely execution.
Work closely with architecture leaders and technical subject matter experts to align product plans with platform capabilities, dependencies, and longer-term technical direction.
Collaborate with BI, data, and engineering teams across distributed locations to move initiatives from concept through implementation.
Validate completed solutions with users, gather feedback, and support adoption of data and analytics products.
Identify and rank BI and data use cases based on measurable business impact while balancing multiple active initiatives in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

Demonstrated experience serving as a Product Owner for business intelligence, analytics, or data-focused products.
Strong working knowledge of Power BI and its use in delivering reporting and analytical solutions.
Hands-on experience with Azure DevOps, including backlog administration, user story creation, and sprint support.
Solid understanding of Agile Scrum practices and backlog grooming within cross-functional delivery teams.
Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to work directly with end users and business stakeholders.
Proven ability to manage competing priorities across several projects at the same time.
Background collaborating with BI, engineering, and technical teams to convert business needs into actionable product plans.
