Additional Locations: Charlotte, NC; West Des Moines, IA
Employment Type: Contract (18 months with potential for extension or conversion)
Hybrid Schedule: 3 days per week in office (mandatory)
About the Role

We are seeking a Software Engineer (Full Stack Java) to join a Home Lending technology team responsible for enhancing and modernizing a mission-critical mortgage servicing platform. This role will support the continued development of an existing application focused on early mortgage resolution and customer assistance initiatives.

As a member of an Agile Scrum team, you will design, develop, and implement scalable solutions that improve operational efficiency through automation, configuration, and emerging AI-powered capabilities. You will collaborate closely with engineers, product partners, and business stakeholders to deliver innovative solutions while helping broaden technical knowledge across the team.
Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, test, and maintain full stack applications using Java-based technologies.
  • Build and enhance scalable APIs and backend services using Spring Boot.
  • Develop solutions that improve business processes through automation and workflow optimization.
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of AI-driven features and decisioning capabilities.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, backlog refinement, and retrospectives.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define requirements and deliver high-quality software solutions.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production issues while continuously improving application performance and reliability.
  • Promote engineering best practices, code quality, testing, and maintainability.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 4+ years of professional software engineering experience.
  • Strong experience developing applications with Java within the last two years.
  • Hands-on experience building microservices and APIs using Spring Boot.
  • Experience working in Agile development environments.
  • Strong problem-solving and collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with modern AI-assisted development tools such as Claude, Devin, or Cursor.
  • Experience developing enterprise-scale applications in a financial services or banking environment.
  • Full stack development experience across both backend and frontend technologies.
  • Experience with application configuration, workflow automation, and complex business rules implementation.
  • Familiarity with mortgage lending, servicing, or home lending platforms.
Team & Project

You will join one of several Scrum teams supporting a mortgage-focused application that plays a key role in early customer issue resolution within Home Lending. The platform is already established and undergoing continued enhancement, including the introduction of advanced automation and AI-driven functionality. The team values engineers who can contribute across multiple areas of the technology stack and collaborate effectively in a highly dynamic environment.
