Role Summary
Our client is modernizing their enterprise data landscape, moving from a legacy data warehouse and older transactional systems into a cloud-based Lakehouse architecture on Databricks.
We are seeking a Senior Data Architect / Data Modeler to design the next-generation data foundation, establish governance through Unity Catalog, and guide the migration of complex operational data into a scalable, analytics-ready environment.
This role combines architecture, data modeling, and enterprise governance, requiring close collaboration with engineering, analytics, and business teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Define end-to-end data architecture supporting the transition from legacy EDW to a modern Databricks Lakehouse.
- Build conceptual, logical, and physical data models across Finance, Supply Chain, Operations, and other core domains.
- Establish Lakehouse ingestion, curation, and consumption patterns (bronze/silver/gold).
- Set standards for Delta Lake, Delta Live Tables, and data quality frameworks.
- Architect and operationalize Unity Catalog for lineage, governance, access control, and metadata management.
- Define catalog, schema, workspace, and permissioning strategies at enterprise scale.
- Partner with security and platform teams to align governance with corporate standards.
- Translate operational data structures from legacy systems into harmonized Lakehouse models.
- Define ingestion patterns using CDC, APIs, streaming, or file-based mechanisms.
- Ensure master data consistency and alignment with enterprise governance.
- Lead rationalization of legacy EDW assets and design migration paths into Databricks.
- Work with engineering, analytics, and business stakeholders to align data architecture with business objectives.
- Provide architectural documentation, standards, and guidance to engineering teams.
- Support roadmap planning, solution reviews, and architecture governance forums.
Required Skills & Experience
- 10+ years in data architecture, data modeling, or enterprise data engineering.
- Experience designing and governing data models for large, complex organizations.
- Hands-on experience with:
- Unity Catalog (mandatory)
- Delta Lake
- Delta Live Tables
- Lakehouse architecture patterns
- Expertise in conceptual, logical, and physical data modeling and dimensional modeling.
- Experience migrating from legacy EDWs (Teradata, Oracle, SQL Server, Netezza, etc.) to cloud platforms.
- Strong understanding of governance, lineage, metadata, and security frameworks.
- Ability to communicate effectively with technical and business stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience integrating data from ERP or transactional systems such as:
- Experience with Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud Platform cloud ecosystems.
- Familiarity with ML/AI workloads on Databricks.
- Experience in semiconductor, high-tech, or manufacturing environments.
