We're seeking a seasoned and driven Senior Engineering Manager to lead our Streaming Platform team at Arlo. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in technical complexity, embraces operational chaos, and knows how to bring structure, clarity, and velocity to platform-level engineering teams.

You will be responsible for the foundational systems that power real-time video and audio streaming experiences from millions of devices to our global user base. Our stack involves both RTSP and SIP protocols, and the ideal candidate has deep familiarity with both - not just in theory, but in production at scale.

This is a high-impact leadership position that requires a blend of technical depth, operational excellence, and people leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and scale the Streaming Platform team, building a high-performing culture of ownership, innovation, and accountability.

  • Drive the architecture, implementation, and stability of core RTSP and SIP server infrastructure.

  • Provide hands-on technical leadership, including guidance on C++, Java, and systems-level debugging when needed.

  • Bring order to chaos - stabilize flaky systems, reduce firefighting, and build for reliability and observability.

  • Partner with cross-functional teams (Mobile, Web, Camera Firmware, DevOps) to ensure end-to-end streaming experiences are seamless.

  • Hire and grow top-tier engineering talent, mentor engineers, and help grow future leaders within the team.

  • Establish clear roadmaps, priorities, and metrics that align with business goals and customer outcomes.

  • Own incident response processes, SLAs, and long-term improvements for the streaming platform.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of industry experience, with 3+ years in an engineering management role.

  • Proven success leading streaming/media teams, ideally with experience managing RTSP and/or SIP servers in production.

  • Solid programming background in C++ and Java, with an ability to dive into code and guide architectural decisions.

  • Strong track record in building reliable, scalable backend systems in fast-paced environments.

  • Experience navigating high-stakes operational environments with a cool head and decisive leadership.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills - able to align technical teams and influence cross-functional partners.

  • A knack for identifying and hiring great engineers and building a team that people want to join.

  • Bias for action, curiosity to explore, and resilience to thrive amid ambiguity.

Nice to Have

  • Experience working with media frameworks, camera streaming, or VoIP systems.

  • Familiarity with cloud video delivery pipelines and edge computing.

  • Knowledge of protocol optimization, low latency streaming, or custom SIP implementations
