Full Time Role

Hybrid in San Francisco or Boston 3 days onsite

Remote Opportunity

Our client, a fast-growing telehealth startup, is seeking a Founding Mobile Software Engineer.
This is a foundational hire responsible for building the company's first native mobile application using React Native. You'll help stand up the mobile app from scratch, make key architectural decisions, and establish the technical patterns that future engineers will build upon.
The ideal candidate has shipped and maintained React Native apps in production and understands the boundaries between React Native and native iOS/Android development. You should be comfortable working primarily in TypeScript and React, while also able to drop into Swift or Kotlin when needed (e.g., HealthKit integrations, push notifications, video SDKs).
The team views mobile and web as one unified product surface — not separate teams — so you should also be comfortable contributing to a Next.js frontend when needed.
What Were Looking For
  • 3+ years of experience building mobile applications, with meaningful production experience in React Native
  • Strong technical fundamentals in React Native and experience with Expo (build tooling, OTA updates, native module configuration)
  • Comfort working with native iOS and/or Android (Swift, Kotlin)
  • Experience operating in ambiguous, fast-paced startup environments (prior startup experience preferred)
  • Familiarity with modern full-stack environments (e.g., Ruby on Rails, Postgres, TypeScript) and architecting shared code between mobile and web codebases is a plus
  • Clear communicator who can articulate technical decisions thoughtfully and succinctly
  • Entrepreneurial mindset — has built products and can think beyond code (e.g., GTM strategy, early customer acquisition)
  • Strong mission alignment and excitement about building meaningful healthcare technology (prior healthcare experience not required)
This is an opportunity to define the mobile foundation of a telehealth platform and have outsized impact from day one.

Salary (based on location & experience - keep this in mind when doing to Boston based candidates) & equity

Our ideal candidate has shipped and maintained React Native apps in production, and deeply understands the boundaries between React Native and native iOS/Android. You should be comfortable dropping into Swift or Kotlin when needed — e.g. for HealthKit integrations, push notifications, or video calling SDKs — but spend most of your time in TypeScript and React. You should also be willing to work on our Next.js web frontend; we think of mobile and web as one surface area, not two separate teams.
Beyond mobile expertise, we're looking for someone who cares deeply about technical excellence but is also comfortable moving quickly. We are constantly navigating tradeoffs between engineering velocity and quality. Our ideal candidate is hungry, high-agency, and aspires to be a generalist. Our engineers frequently write product requirements documents, write SQL to understand how features are performing, and own QA — no task is beneath us or outside of the scope of the role if it helps us to deliver a great product. We're looking for someone who can operate in an environment of significant ambiguity, and who is comfortable working closely with design, operations, and clinical stakeholders.
We don't expect you to have a healthcare background (though it's great if you do!). However, you should be excited by the prospect of digging into the messy complexities of the American healthcare system (integrating with EHRs, revenue cycle management, etc).
