Job Summary
VDOT is seeking a Senior Azure Infrastructure Engineer to implement, configure, manage, and provide strategic guidance on cloud infrastructure within VDOT’s Azure environment. The ideal candidate will ensure a secure, stable, and highly observable environment, spearhead cloud migrations from on-premises datacenters, and oversee mission-critical backup and disaster recovery (DR) operations.
Required Skills & Years of Experience
Candidates must meet or exceed the following 8-year thresholds to be considered for submission:
- Azure Infrastructure & Guidance (8+ Years | REQUIRED)
- Hands-on experience implementing, maintaining, monitoring, and providing structural guidance on resources/infrastructure in Microsoft Azure.
- On-Prem to Cloud Migration (8+ Years | REQUIRED)
- Proven track record planning and executing complex cloud migrations, moving legacy workloads from on-premises environments to Azure.
- Enterprise Backup & Disaster Recovery (8+ Years | REQUIRED)
- Extensive experience working in mission-critical enterprise environments, crafting DR plans to ensure minimal downtime and prevent data loss.
- Cloud Networking & Security Policy (8+ Years | REQUIRED)
- Deep experience implementing networking and security policies in Azure. Strong understanding of OSI layer functionality and network protocols.
- Azure Observability & Monitoring (8+ Years | REQUIRED)
- Advanced experience using Azure Monitor, Workbooks, and Alerts to build meaningful monitoring dashboards and critical observability alerts for operations teams.
- Vulnerability Remediation (8+ Years | REQUIRED)
- Experience handling vulnerability remediation and working closely on security initiatives (experience with tools like Tenable is highly preferred).
Tech Stack Environment
The candidate will support and troubleshoot production issues in an environment utilizing a diverse mix of frameworks and technologies, including:
- Frameworks/Languages: .NET, Java
- Databases: SQL Server, Oracle
- Enterprise Platforms: Microsoft Dynamics
Nice-to-Have Qualifications
- Microsoft Certifications: Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104), Azure Solutions Architect Expert (AZ-305), etc.
- Networking Certifications: CompTIA Network+, CCNA, etc.
Key Screening Questions for Recruiter Use
- Does the candidate have a full 8+ years of dedicated Azure Infrastructure experience, or is their experience split with AWS/On-prem? (Must be 8 years specific to the required buckets).
- Is the candidate 100% comfortable working fully on-site in Mechanicsville, VA from day one?
- Can the candidate provide an example of a time they had to provide technical guidance or present a cloud strategy to upper-level management?
